Ebay and Paypal help please...

I am looking to start selling some stuff on Ebay could anyone help me out by explaining the costs involved and how the whole system works? Should I start most auctions at low minimum bids or start at a price I would like to at least get for the card instead of adding a reserve? Do images help or make a big difference? Generally do items sell for more if I start it on certain days of the week or if I make it a 3 day auction? 5 days? a week?

What about Paypal? How do I start up an account and would you recommend using it?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Jon

  • I'd run my auctions so they end after the weekend.

  • cardjunkie is right have them end on weekdays. images are a big help and so is paypal. wether you do 3,5,7 days the real bids come on the last few hours.
  • really? i usually try to have my cards end on sunday night, I figure thats the night when the most people are going to be on. Usually nothing is going on on sunday nights and everyone is home, at least thats what I think. I will ocassionally end on wend though. DEFINATELY do NOT end it on saturday

  • The lower you start your bidding, the cheaper to list. If it's a more valuable card, I usually put a reserve. Always add a BIN around BV. It's cheap and you never know! Timing is critical. End your auctions on a day your player may have a a great game or reach a milestone. I end most of my auction on Mondays. That gives you the weekend for more views. Always scan or use a digital photo. Be very descriptive and note major flaws, This will prevent negative and or neutral feedback. Grading your cards yields more $$$. Establish a rating. Communicate quickly and politely. Buy cheaper stuff and establish a rating before you sell. I added the Square trade seal to my auctions and this has absolutely improved my sales. I use Paypal, check or MO. I used to use Billpoint but had to wait to long for money transfer. Paypal gets you the money quick and its covenient. Hold items for checks. Use reasonable shipping costs and ship promptly and use quality packaging material. Give buyer option for insurance. Ocasionally I'll state that I'll cover shipping if BIN is used. Post your auctions here and any other sites you belong to. All these things have led to a pretty successful eBay business for me. One other thing if you do eTopps, Try and buy 2 or and list ASAP and for 3 days. This brings the highest yield. Hope this helps. Good Luck......................Mike

  • Yea, I just did what mtgrinch said, I listed my two tejada rcs (bowman chrome and bowmans best refractor) on sunday and had them end on saturday cause, knowing those voters, they will vote for a player on a great team who really wasnt as great as another player on a bad team. Well, I was right, on Tuesday they picked Tejada and on wed my auction ended, and I got bv for my cards ($30 bv each, one went for $34 and the other $26). Kind of scored there cause I got like an additional $6-$10 on each than if I had ended it before he was announced MVP. I also ended my Bledsoe auto #01/75 on a sunday night, right after what may have been his biggest game this year (course I couldnt predict it, but thats why I also end on sundays cause you got people voting on their emotions).
