Coin Show Report

I just got back from a small show in Kenosha WI. It was a nice show with a few table not many but enough for me. I bought 2 coins, a MS-66 Buffalo Nickel, and a MS-63 RB indian head cent from an older gentelman he was even nice enough to take $10 of the buff. and 5 dollars of the cent without me even asking. I got both the coins for under $100 too. What made my trip even better was the fact that we stopped at a fireworks store and bought $60 bucks worth of them to.

I was there early and you couldn't move around it was so crowded. I did go back later and I thought the show was okay, but nothing to write home about. Congrats on your scores.

  • I stopped in this afternoon. Small show, but nice. Way too narrow of aisles. Made it very hard to look around.

I just bought a couple of civil war tokens. Some nice coins there, but sure weren't many PCGS or NGC slabs there. All the early type coins I liked were in off brand slabs.

Good ay to get out of the house and look at coins though.

I posted a pick of my 1918 merc dime score on the "PCGS Registy Forum." Take a peek and guess the grade.

    Thanks for the report.

Any ideas on why there weren't that many PCGS/NGC slabs and so many off-brand?

It looked as if some of these dealers were part timers. And I think here in Wisconsin, many of the dealers think the grading services are a waste of time. I saw someone carry in about five slabs and the dealer couldn't figure out were the grade was. He had never seen a PCGS Slab before. How is that for hickville!

  • Yes, there were some old timers but they were still very help full the guy i bought from must have been 75 or so. He was the older guy on the last table of the left row on the right side. He was only there half the time the other half he had a blue tarp over the coins. he didnt even have cases but he sure had nice coins.

  • I agree, there were very few slabbed coins at the show. I got there early and managed to find a real nice 1902 NGC MS64RB Indian cent and an 1885 NGC MS64 rim toned Morgan.

My collecting son did better, he found a really nice circulated 57 flying eagle cent, a couple of circulated barber quarters, and a nicely toned Franklin half. He was very proud of the fact that he was able to bargain the price down on every single coin purchase he made.

The aisles were very narrow, the room was crowded, you had to wade through piles of junk to find a decent coin at a good price, but it was a great way to spend the day with my son.

For anyone one that was trying to call my cellphone at the show, I didn't realize that my battery had died. Sorry Matt I would have liked to meet you. Maybe I did?

Here are the pictures of some of my son Marks finds he wanted me to post:

  • My kid (Mark) is 12 and has brownish blond hair. He was wearing a black sweatshirt coat.
He wasn't the kid with the blond spiked hair.
