To everyone that gave their input on this subject, my sincere thanks. I have just sent the following email to the buyer and put the appropriate check in the mail.
"Hi XXXX,
I'm sorry the coin wasn't to your liking. I have mailed you a refund check for $84.00 per your request.
Happy collecting,
Dan Lewis

I have filed a NPBA with eBay requesting a refund of my Final Value fees, and placed this bidder on my "Blocked Bidder list", since I really have no desire to do business with this individual in the future. I hope my actions are not a letdown for those of you that suggested I rip her heart out. I think it was a good thread and it generated some interesting comments.

See ya on the other side, Dudes.
Excellent job of gathering suggestions from the board and putting them to good use. I wouldn't have been as nice to the buyer as you were, but I think it's great that you were able to let go of the frustration and send the nice message that you did. It will be great to put this experience behind you.
On a side note, all of us at times hopefully will learn from this thread to think first and not react first.
I think the results will be better and more gratifying.
IMHO. Joe.

By the way, the guy I thought wasn't paying attention was the guy who sat next to you (B.D.). I saw him at the Baltimore show but didn't stop to chat.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
I think you made the right choice. Taking the kinder road tends to pay off in a customer/seller relationship - even if the customer has behaved in a way that is not conducive to further business. Making a customer angry usually gets out to many more than one person - much harder to control.
So, does this mean you'll be continuing to sell on eBay? Or, close your account and cease selling as recommended by somebody who obviously knows so much more about it than you?
