When I saw this one I sort of gasped. You don't see this too often. Imagine the story it could tell?

maybe the damage was caused by the holder.

This one got burried a bit too fast.

    Scary!
I also found a 1922 plain Lincoln with a big half hole in the middle of it.

Who are these people mutilating these Key dates?!

(Also- the price on the above is stupid. Damage like the one on that 1885 nickel place it in the Cull catagory, not GD04. The price should really be somewhere between $50.00 and $100.00 I'd think.)

  • After I saw an Indian Head penny with a hole thru it in the date on ebay, with bidding at $70. and building, I'd believe anything will sell! Twowood

If that "edge damage" is really,in fact, a mint-produced reeded edge...one could retire on the proceeds...image

Can anyone offer an explanation of the possible cause?

"Back in the day" bored farmers would tap the edge of coins with a spoon. Try that for a few hours. (Gotta be REAL bored!) and this type of damaged coin is what you get.
