The 1996 Silver's Little Brother(s)

Folks,

I also wanted to share with you something I've started enjoying of late. Silver proof Washingtons (Eagle backs). I've started heading backwards from 1998, and have found some truly frosty nice ones in my searches. These two are solid 69s (they have too many hairlines for 70s), but they're stunning, just the same.

  • GP - thanks !

I take the proof in its slab and place it on a white sheet of paper very nearly under a bright Reveal bulb. I use a Nikon CoolPix 800 on a floor tripod, just a foot or so taller than the table. I shoot the coin where the camera is not quite directly above the coin, and is not at an angle that shows the light bulb.

I use the no flash option, and use timed shutter (counts to 10) and step away. The cool part is to take a black cloth or paper and hold it over the coin (but not in the light). That shows the fields and the devices in the contrast you get when you look at a proof in your hand in good lighting.

MS coins and copper don't require the black paper/cloth, but the lighting works well.

  • Bsqr, I DO like that Eagle! I almost bought one of those - it was a bit out of my budget at the time. Nice coin and picture, too! image
