At least according to the seller. There are some things that worry me about this coin. The color of the surfaces, the softness (and not crispness) of the elements and the star tops. But what do you bust coinage people think? Link

  • A very nice coin, the color is natural but i dont like the look of the huge scratches across Ms. Liberty i'll say XF-40. I really dont see what your talking about when u say softness... could u explain?

Well, I speak as someone who has learned some about counterfeits but not much about bust coinage (where many counterfeits seem to be). The hair around the temple seems to lack some crispness. Most of the stars don't have much of a center (though, on looking longer one or two seem very complete). The feathers on the reverse don't seem well defined. And the two splotched on the rev on each side of the tail feathers worry me. It may be the angle, but the coin doesn't appear very round and has some rim issues (may be the photo). Again, if I'm totally wrong, that's OK. I'd rather learn what to look for than try to save my ego. image

It's a tempting looking coin with all the neat stuff going on. However, I say this, I am looking for an 1806/9 (inverted six) and have come to the conclusion to buy it only in person or through a reputable auction.
