Question from a newbe

I have been reading the post here for sometime and have learned a great deal from the members. I have been collecting Silver Eagles Proof, pcgs MS 69 andPR 69 all from Ebay. I have noticed that some of the holders on hte proof coins were loose, Does this mean that the person I bought it from has taken it out of the holder to see if it is worth grading and if not put it back in the holder.

I truly don't think there is any Neat way of cracking a PCGS or NGC slab open to switch coins without some obvious damage or something on the slab that would immediately draw some attention.

maybe the tolerance on the holder is a bit off or the tolerance on the coin's diameter is a tad off.

    BC,

With PCGS slabs, it would be very clear if that had been done. It would be obviously cracked. So, it's not really a concern.

And, welcome aboard! Got proof JFKs?

  • I think maybe BC was referring to the plastic holder the mint puts proof Eagles in? Or maybe airtites?

  • Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I was referring to the holders that come from the mint

I have had several of these come open in the mail from the mint. The postman dropkicks them for fun.image

    BC,

In that case, than you have a very high probability that the seller has, indeed, decided it wasn't worth sending in for grading - whether they popped out the coin or not.
