Not sure how this would work, everyone has One or Two GREAT coins but not enough to make a GREAT set, what if everyone takes a picture of their PCGS Coin and we voted as to who had the best, then made a separate thread to name that coin the best. Then, we could view a complete Type set right here on the forum.
So, Maybe someone can take charge of the posts in the second thread and post about 50 posts in a row. then take the donated pictures from each winner and post them ...in order in the second thread...
Sounds fun and interesting...what do you all say?

This thread would be a MAJOR educational thread for all collectors.

PS. I suggest a few notes per coin type such as:
1. Key dates
2. Mintage
3. Years of coin type
4. What is on the coin and why
5. Designer
6. Any controversy/backround gossip
7. Noted errors
8. Brief synopsosis
Then have the picture with the owners information. Then maybe a link to the set it is in...I'm making this up as I go along so there is alot we can do with this, the problem is, I'm not sure how much time I would have to do it AND I do not have the web space (I can't figure out AOL since they changed).
Another key fact would be that each coin description and synopsosis would be given by one of the experts of that series, that way someone person does not haveto do a months worth of studying to get each coin right...

See my post above. I've got plenty of space, and as of today I have a lot more time on my hands (got dumped )

I can't send PMs from this computer. Email me: Clark@ClarkOfKent.com
they don't have an emoticon for patting you on the back...
You want us to submit a picture of a coin we own?
<< <i> awww Clark... too bad... there is another thread, "ever wonder who you are talking to?" you can post your pic there and cross your fingers... >>
You've obviously misunderstood. I'm not having ANY problem at all REPELLING women! Posting my picture would be counter-productive.
DAM, Yes that would be the idea, Good quality photos of each type of US coin so the new guys....and the old collectors will have something to refer to.
The photos will be creditied to the owner of the coin and a link could be provided to the set it was in (If it was in a set)

I already did. I made pictures of my old 1798-2000 nongold type set, and did a "scavenger" hunt game this summer, giving the pictures as clues, distributing them through Private Messages and sprinkling a few freebie clues on the forums. The players had to trade information to "collect" all the virtual coins). The first person who "collected" the entire set won a coin from the real set (a 1912 Liberty nickel in PCGS MS62). Mind you, this set was not the finest type set around, by a long shot, but there were some nice coins in it. It was my type set before I switched to the PCGS Registry pursuit.
The "Virtual Type Set" giveaway was a lot of fun. I even thought of doing a Darkside version, but nobody seemed that enthusiastic about it, and running the giveaways takes a lot of work, distributing the clues to everyone.
Here is The Lord Marcovan Virtual Type Set as it appeared on the forums this summer.
He "hacked" my image server to get the last one or two, LOL. But he admitted that and excused himself from the prize. Whitewashqtr was the next to get them all.
These coins represented a collection I put together between 1997 and early 2001. I had a job paying less than half what I currently make now, so that set of coins took a lot of hard work and sacrifice, and even then, I could not afford all high-grade pieces. I tried for F12 and up on the earliest types (though the rarest, the Draped Bust half dime and dollar, fell a bit short of that goal). Most of the rest of my 19th century coins were VF20 to MS62, and all of my 20th century coins were MS and proof.
Unfortunately I was not able to do front-and-back images of all the coins, as that would have taken an eternity. Scanning the obverse images and making them into virtual "trading cards" was a daunting enough task for me at the time.
So there you have it- I did a Virtual Type Set, all on my own.
However, if one did a Virtual Type Set with all the PCGS (or PCGS/NGC) coins owned by members of these forums, it would be pretty incredible- and of course it would blow my Virtual Set away. That's a very interesting idea, mrpaseo.
But to do such a thing, one would need a panel of impartial judges to decide whose coins made the "cut". That wasn't an issue for me. Humble though they may have been, all the coins in my Virtual Type Set were my own.
You are still the MAN, my Lordship!! That was the BEST contest and that great 1912 Liberty Nickel, PCGS MS62 is residing in my 11 year old son's set!! He has a great story to tell on how his daddy "earned" that coin. That was a lot of hard work. But well worth the reward!!
Cant thank you enough! ! You are TOPS in my book!!
I vote that LordMarcovan be in charge of this.
I didn't know if you were still around. It's been a while. Glad to hear the good word.
And I would be happy to run the new, improved Virtual Type Set for members, but I would need help. And patience- I'm not so sure how much time I'd have.
If I judge the new set, does this mean I get to put My 2c worth in there?
That's the only chance I'd have of making Ray's Virtual set, as plenty of members have nicer 2-centers than I. And even my CAM proof Barber half icon coin would come in below others owned here on the forums. It's only a PR63 CAM. My nicest two pieces currently only have technical grades in the 63-64 range. And they are all I have left, really, having traded away my MS64 1862 quarter tonight. WWBillman, another player on my old Virtual type set game, has some monsters that would blow away anything I could show off. I have a bit bigger budget now than I did in 1997-2001, but I'm still a fairly small fish in a big pond.
