Beautifully toned Lincoln's

I purchased a mint sewn bag of 1969-s Lincoln's a few years back. I just had the urge to open the bag and see what I might find. A few handfuls in I noticed a beautifully toned coin. Mostly reds and greens but covers the entire obverse and maybe 1/5th of the reverse. A few more handfuls and more toned coins. Most are partially toned on either the obverse or reverse. Now I've got a question..........does anybody collect toned copper? I have never seen a Lincoln with rainbow toning before. These coins are choice to gem unc, MS 64-65. And I'm 100% sure no AT here. I've got at least 3/4 of the bag to go through yet and was wondering if I should keep pulling the toned coins out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.........
Bruggs

Sure, I grab nice cheap toned lincolns. Grabbed some nice ones off the local dealer who doesn't deal with/understand moderns or the toning premium. As I've gotten more exposed to higher grade lincolns, I'm more confident about cherry picking them.

    Bruggs,

I'm interested. You might want to turn your PM option on so people can work a deal with you without having to post prices to the public. I'm a pretty strong buyer of super eye appeal coins. I pay "rediculous" prices for "rediculously" drop dead, knock out, drool over lincolns. There are stronger buyers out there than me, though. Let me know...

    P.S. A pic would help.

I have looked everywhere I can think and I can't find where to turn on the "PM". It must have something to do with my MacIntosh computer. Anyway I can be reached at mbrugge@wesnet.com. Thanks for your interest...........

It's easy. There is a button called "profile" near the upper right of the screen (above the long blue bar). In the profile, you can set up yourself to receive private messages (pm) and a lock icon will appear on your posts so that people can send you private messages.

I'd love to see some pics of your toned lincolns if you get a chance.

Great Post! I was wondering the same thing myself. I just picked up a couple of monster toned lincolns at local shows. The most expensive $3 for a MS-63/64 1936-D. Mostly in the .25 cent range. I didn't even know these we big ticket items. Off to ANACS they go now.

I got a 1950-D with a rainbow bullseye toning on the obverse & reverse, amazing for a lincoln.

Just my 6 cents - pun intended

Cool! I was wondering myself if there are buyers out there for these types of things. I was under the impression that most copper-ites would not appreciate this type of toning.

After all of these great post about toned Lincolns, is there a nice gent (or lady) out there that might have a nice toned 58-D Lincoln that I might work a deal with for a little 1958-D (toned) mint set that I am putting together for myself?

I would really prefer toning on both sides but would settle for a nicely toned obverse.

  • I found this coin in a bank wrapped roll of 1995-D Lincolns. The scans do this one no justice. I didn't realize that it was a 93 until I had it stapled into a 2X2. All of the other coins were regular red.

That's a beauty Commoncents, I really like that type of copper toning. Nicely blended towards the rims, but with Lincoln's hair and beard highlighted. Really nice. I use to own an Indian cent with similar toning: link.

Robertpr -- There are a lot of copper collectors who like to stray away from the typical monochromatic tones. I like some that are a bit "too nice" for PCGS's tastes, and appreciate NGC for their open mind when slabbing them: link.

Occasionally, I see a nicely toned proof, and they sometimes take on a silver appearance. Thought you might like a look. Just a fun coin, but then again, that's why I collect.image
