for any who believe that the concept of "verification" is something new at pcgs i direct you to page 24 of "The Official Guide To Coin Grading And Counterfeit Detection" my copy has a copyright year of 1997. this is a direct quote:
"When all of the graders have finished their evaluations, a coin is given a final grade. The coin is then encapuslated and verified. If the verifier disagrees with the fianl grade, the coin is tagged and given to the other graders for discussion and possible comparison to examples fro the PCGS Grading Set."
the language is repeated almost verbatim at pages 68-69
"When graders finish their evaluations, the coin is assigned a final grade, encapsulated, and verified. If the verifier disagrees with the final grade, the coin is tagged and given to the senior graders for discussion and possibly comparison to examples from the Grading Set."
no mention of "a finalizer" just mention that a final grade is assigned, but it is clear that there has always been verification.
just thought i'd clarify for the curious.
so maybe things won't be changing so much after all?
