Santa needs some help

For the same amount of money, which would be better, a BU $20.00 St. Gaudens gold coin or
a new 2002 $50.00 Gold Eagle? This would be held for a long time, rather than a quick turn around.

I vote the Eagle if you are buying for price increase. A saint in the same price range wouldn't be a very scarce one.
The old saint would be more interesting (at least to me) if you are buying for enjoyment.

either of them will go up if gold would go up. I vote for a classic design! Buy the SG's!

I'd go for the saint- simply a gorgeous classic image

  • My opinion? You can't beat a classic. Imho go for the St.

i agree with Placid but!!! i would go with classic because even if its not a rare date its got to be rarer than an Eagle.

a 2001 50.00 gold eagle with a mintage of around 143,000 in pcgs ms69 would be nice, the saints are nice too, however the mintages are much higher, they were hoarded by the tens of thousands and as someone said, gee the prices are the same today as they were 10 years ago. a lower mintage seems to be the way to go, but buy what you like and enjoy it.
  • i wanted to own some gold JUST for me...i went with the st gaudens..its prettier and has more history
  • For beauty, history, and enjoyment, the Saint Gaudens would do the trick.

For possible futures interest, and for beauty (well, I like them, too!) go for the Eagle.

    Tade,

I think the classic Saint is a better choice becuase of the age factor. The new ones are neat, but the old ones have class! image

a no brainer a classic worlds most beautiful coin the twenty dollar sainti mean look at the classic all time fav coin book breens encycepedia and look what is on the front of the book!!

in a really nice 63 grade slabbed by ngc pcgs but the saint will cost 100 dollars more than the bullion coin. and just make sure you get a nice pq unspotted coin and other than the 24 or 27 date and make sure you get a coin without any alloy streaks in it with booming lustre they are out there like that in 63 but you have to look

now if you are just going for pure bullion then the 50 dollar coin

    sincerely michael
