got the V nickel today- don't you just love it when they are shipped like this!

I am very happy with the quality of this coin that was described as XF(fully unc. in my opinion)obverse pic , reverse pic. But I hate it when they are sent like this in a regular envelope. At least she had four sheets of paper in the envelope to protect it and it looks to be unharmed. I had to peel the tape off of it- you think I should dip this in acetone right away or could I wait till the weekend? I asked for grade opinion's in an earlier thread from the sellers pictures but I think my pictures are much better for grading so feel free to give an opinion. mike imageimage

I'm assuming you got a deal on this one!

I'd write the seller a polite note describing why we don't apply tape directly to a coin!!

does this person regularly sell coins??

Looks cleaned and maybe scratched or a die crack. What is that line behind the head that goes thru the tip of the star?

The tape is actually on the coin with nothing in between?

If there is no residue from the tape, don't take a chance with cleaning, it could take that nice color away.

I paid XF money for it so I think I did pretty good on itimage. I searched the other auctions for this seller and this was the only coin she sold so I assume she had no idea that taping the coin to paper was bad. Yes Russ it was taped right over the coin. Placid good eye I did not see that mark at all when looking at the coin in hand but it did show up in all three of the obverse pictures I took but it still is not seen when viewed with the naked eye. I don't see any signs of cleaning or even a dip. I don't see any tape residue but I still think acetone would be a good idea just to make sure the coin does not have problems in the future. Thanks all mike
