Try to be a nice guy, And what do you get???

Well another ebay saga!!!
Here is the play by play: 10/20/02 auction ends. Immediately following auctions end a Paypal invoice is sent. A week goes by. No response by the buyer. 10/27/02 I send a nice notice reminding them of the auctions end and their responsibility for payment (It probably just slipped your mind). NO response. 11/3/02 I send another notice reminding them again of their responsibility to pay, and if they do not respond they may be faced with negative feedback. 11/4/02 Finally a response. They send me an eBay checkout. 11/4/02 I respond by sending them a total due along with mailing information. At this point I am thinking (Check is in the mail). WRONG!! 11/10/02 Now I'm starting to get upset. It has been three weeks. I send another reminder, Not quite as nice this time. Telling the buyer if contact is not made by Mon. 11/11/02 at 9:00 P.M. EST Negative feedback will be left. Well, I get to thinking Mon is a Holiday and maybe, just maybe they sent payment and I was unable to get the mail because the P.O. is closed. I decide to give it one more day. MISTAKE!!!! I list some items on ebay and notice my feedback has changed. This jerk gave me a negative feedback stating ("Constant harrassment.... He needs to get with the program and accept Paypal"). By now I am fuming. This jerk is in the wrong yet he hits me with a Neg. 11/11/02 He sends me an email wanting to know if I still want to go through with the transaction. WELL, I'm up for comments and suggestions folks.
FIRE AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS FOR ALL COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was always taught that the customer is always right. I would go through with the sale and then put a response in the negative feedback saying, "The auction has been completed and I will do a better job of communications in the future".

That is what I would do.

  • Al,
By now I'm sure that you will agree with my assessment that the computer, and eBay especially, are just tools to allow you to meet all the buttheads in the world that you won't get to meet in person.

I had one like that and I finally got a response to an email of mine where I had stated that by being the high bidder a binding contract had been entered and to "be a man and live up to your responsibilities." I got an email back stating "As much as I try to be a man, my breasts keep getting in the way!" OOOPS! At least, after a month I got a response.

All I can say is, keep a stiff upper lip. Sorry to hear about the neg.

  • First, give us his name on ebay. Second, if you go thru the trouble with ebay, they will correct your feedback. But keep real good records. I am sure if this story gets enough attention, so many will place this JERK on thier NO BID ACCEPTED LIST, I will for sure. I have had two people do this to me last year, and they are a permanent part of my list. Dont let this guy get to you, just ignore him and dont do any business with him, if you proceed from here, I feel quite sure you will get screwed out of something. Hope you take this as just my opinion and not base your reaction just off my note. I hope all works out for you.

File a NPB with eBay. He only gets 3 before he is booted. Neg him back: "DEADBEAT. FAILED TO PAY. LIED SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT SENDING PAYMENT. AVOID!"

  • I wouldn't go through with the deal. He negged you, sent no money, and has the cajones to ask to go through with it??

I would post a response to his negative in a very nice, polite way, though.

And, I agree. Send your paper trail to ebay. Maybe they can get the neg taken off.

    Good luck.

    edited for spelling.

I wouldn't piss on this dickhead if he was on fire. I wouldn't go through with the sale either. I'd neg him back and then take my case to eBay along with all the e-mails to show a timeline and get the neg removed. If he still sends you a Paypal, just refuse it.

Ditto what Greg said. You were already too patient with this loser, and he negs you for that? He deserves no further consideration.

So I would ignore him for a while then file NPB on him! He's left his fb but you don't need to be in any hurry to leave it for him just yet. Why would you still want to complete the deal with him? He's already shown that he is a psycho buyer and he just might send you a PayPal then file fraud against you and PayPal freezes YOUR account causing you all kinds of grief. Or does a backcharge with his cc after he gets the goods. I wouldn't take any more chances with problems from this guy.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

    Al,

I'd post a link to this thread as your follow-up to his negative.

what nerve these clowns on ebay have.
  • At whatever point you become irritated (it is different for each individual), you should send an Ebay Non-paying bidder warning. If they don't respond to that, then get the buyer's telephone number from bidder information. If they don't repond to that, then give a call the next evening. He had an obligation to respond to your requests, but I have found using Ebay's warnings helps make an impact they respond to a little quicker.

How is his feedback? What is his past history?

The jerk that stiffed him has a FB of 1...that's right..ONE! What a stiff!
  • Have him send the money, then don't send him the item. He can't neg you twice for the same crime. It's called "double jeopardy!" image

    (I'm just kidding, of course.)

copperhead - File a NPB notice through ebay - I take it you clearly stated payment methods in the description (money order / check / cash ) - the buyer already has your send payment info doesn't he?

Sometimes I go through checkout in hopes of finding a payment address because I had not recieved it before - the ebay auction closed email usually doesn't have it/ the Paypal statements doesn't have it -

I even have had sellers ask for my shipping address in an email so they could calculate postage - they get back in a week but still I don't know where to send their money. Some sellers are so concerned about how they are going to get paid they forget to tell me the buyer how to pay them.

You have 90 days to give them feedback - wait and see - was it an expensive item that ebay fees will cost a few dollars? File with ebay to refund your listing/final value fees (after their time limit)

You meet all kinds on ebay - don't sweat the small stuff - with this guy, if payment comes, make sure you have some sort of delivery confirmation and insurance - I can see them claiming they did not receive it!

I would file the NPB and forget trying to complete the deal. He's going to come back at you with more crap if you give the chance. Respond to the neg. with a polite truth on the matter. Just for fun ask for his address so you can send the coin at no charge to him and never send it. He will be watching the mail box for weeks.

I just checked the neg this loser left. Besides the fact that he has a grand total of ONE net positive feedback, he's apparently a 'tard:

<< <i>Constant harassment... he needs to get with the system and accept paypal. >>

I guess he missed that bright yellow "click me" Paypal logo in the auction listing.

  • Well, a liitle update. After posting this thread I went to eBay to request the neg be removed. I then sent the buyer an email at 7:36 P.M. making him aware I contacted eBay. You'll never believe it!!! He sent me a Paypal payment at 7:55 P.M.
I told him in the email I was awaiting a response from ebay before I would complete the deal.
Well, I received an email back from ebay already. They say, while negative feedback is dicouraged, this is not grounds for removal. That is Bullcrap. THAT IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just to clear up a few questions, I received a receipt from Paypal showing the invoice was received. and, the invoice has my mailing address included. The buyer had my mailing address for three weeks.
Now the question is since he paid WHAT SHOULD I DO?????????
I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. The nice guy in me wants to mail the coin out tomorrow. But, another side of me says wait.

I could have told you that would be their response. It's basically impossible to get a negative removed, no matter how stupid it is. That's why so many sellers get can away with unwarranted retaliatory negatives.

<< <i>Now the question is since he paid WHAT SHOULD I DO????????? >>

Immediately return the payment and tell him to piss off.

  • Tough break copperhead. There are jerks all over and sometimes they find us. I have been very fortunate in buying and selling to have only come across 1 of them on ebay. I would
A: Not complete the transaction with this butthead
B: File a NPB with Ebay
C: Nuke him with some choice feedback
D: Reply to his negative feedback with the facts, and or contact Ebay about having the feedback removed.

So pretty much I would do what others have suggested. Good Luckimage

Ahhhhh I just saw your most recent post, you can refund his money through Paypal at no charge to you, so that's what I would do!!!

    Copperhead,

Immediately refund his paypal payment from your paypal main screen. Then contact paypal and ask them not to accept further payment from him, explaining the problem. Then wait till you're sure he's looked for weeks and post the appropriate feedback. IMO

It's like I always post about ebay.

Half of the IDIOTS on there can't read. The other half DON'T read instructions.

I try to spell everything out in my listings to cover each and every "out" for someone and STILL get clowns that cannot follow my explicit instructions.

Exactly what does this idiot think that yellow PAY NOW paypal logo is for on the listing???????????

It's a shame that your feedback gets tainted by a bidder that cannot reply to an email much less follow instructions.

I'll be sure to add this individual to my BLOCKED list and would hope everyone else here does the same.

Here's the link for everyone to block him!

I cannot remember exactly how it works, and I've never had to try it myself, but sometime ago somebody posted a "secret method" of removing feedback. As I recall, the method involved using "offensive" language in your feedback and then having somebody complain about the offensive language to eBay. In the thread, they stated that eBay did not have the ability to edit the language and would simply remove the entire feedback for the item. Like I mentioned, I have never done this but it might be worth a try and it sounds like we could all help you with the wording...image

    Mark,

There are three methods that sometimes prove successful. One is, as you mentioned, nasty words. Just pick from the seven that you don't here on TV and fit as many in as possible.

The second is to include personal information about the target in the feedback.

The third is to include a link to an outside site. With the third, you can include all three elements.image

  • So much hostility image ....."nuke 'em" "NPB him" "neg him"
So the buyer is a doofus....doesn't mean you need to punish him....that's "road rage" mentality...why get your blood pressure up doing something like that?
He finally sent payment, so send him the coin.
Use insurance/signature confirmation etc. to protect yourself.
Put the just the facts in your response to his negative.
Then put him on your list of people to avoid.

    Good luck.

Once he has neg'd you, he has basically done everything he can do to harm you. Whether you choose to complete the transaction or not is up to you. I personally have a policy of never selling to anyone that leaves me a neg or a neutral, so I put them on my "blocked bidders" list. The best thing you can do with this clown is file a Non Paying Bidder Alert and hope two more sellers do the same. Since several weeks have passed since the auction ended, you are under no obligation to accept his payment. As far as retaliatory negatives go, I always tell my buyers I will reciprocate in kind. He leaves you a neg, you neg him back. Don't have to be nasty about it, just let him know how it feels to be on the recieving end. As a seller, I have had over 3400 positives, 4 neutrals and 4 negs. All the neutrals and negs were from individuals new to eBay who didn't understand how the system works. When I contacted eBay, they said they were just "battle scars" that come with the territory. It doesn't make me feel any better, but you learn to live with it.

In the long-term, that's correct. In the short-term he could still file a fraud claim with Paypal, who would immediately lock up the funds in Al's account while they investigate. In the end, Al would be fine, but why should he open himself up to another chance for this cretin to give him a headache?

    Russ, NCNE
  • A link to the item in question

    Link to Al's feedback

A link to what this bidder has been bidding on

    A link to bidders feedback

One thing you can do is contact the other sellers this buyer has bid on and see if they are having the same problem. It looks like this bidder has had an account with eBay for 2 years and has never used it. I am guessing this may be a shill bidding account meant to discredit other sellers. I may be wrong, and probably am.

I would complete the transaction, respond to the negative feedback with two items, date auction closed and date payment received. That way people reading the comments can see that there was an excessive amount of time between closing date and payment recipt. You could also say something like excessive reponse time. i would also contact ebay about this buyer.
I might even send him another email that stated that you blocked him from any further auctions and that you informed everyone on this board about what happened so they can block him too.

I've been going nuts with my bidder block list lately, one more added as fast as I can. Soon there won't be anyone to bid on my itemsimage
I think NPB is your responsibility. I've got a deadbeat about ten days ripe so this thread was excellent timing. Al, that's a great feedback rating nonetheless.
  • If you step back a little bit, this guy's negative isn't too damaging. Al's got 595 postive comments and one negative from a guy who is upset about not having PayPal.

If you scroll down and look at all of the other comments, they are excellent.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. A negative is doomed to happen. It is very random. I'm waiting for mine to come as well. As a bidder, I would have no hesitation bidding on his auctions.

    Copperhead-

Unless I'm responding to a buyer or have a special circumstance (combined S/H,etc) I just use eBay and PayPal to contact them.

    Just follow this simple procedure:

    1) After the auction, make sure an email is sent (ebay,PayPal,you) with payment info
    2) wait 8 days and send a Reminder thru eBay
    3) wait 3 days and file a NPB report
    4) wait 10 days and file for a FV fee refund.

If they are interested in paying they will and this method avoids the hassel. I usually hear from the slackers after step 4 asking if they send payment if I'll remove the eBay warning from their account.

Otherwise, just relist it and try again. They're not worth the effort.

  • Since I was not successful in having the Neg F/B removed by ebay. I guess the first step will be to contact them in regards to the length of time it took for the buyer to pay. Then I guess I'll reply to the Neg F/B. I'll keep you all informed about the events as they take place. I haven't made a firm decision as to following through with the deal. We'll see what happens at eBay.THANKS for all your comments and suggestions.

    then look at this:

  • I think the only problem with your handling of the transaction is that you sent multiple emails threatening the buyer with negative feedback. That can easily be taken as harrassment. It's best to remain pleasant and professional in sending reminders. I only send one reminder 10 days after the auction as a "courtesy" to the buyer letting them know that payment hasn't been recieved. If I don't hear from them within a couple days I send a NPB alert, then later file for a fee refund. It's not worth getting upset over an occassional minor non-payment...it happens. I've had some close calls with newbies also. I don't think the neg will affect your reputation. It's more important to show professionalism in your response. Don't use name-calling...just say something like..."another newbie who thinks he's an expert after a week on ebay". The first negative stings, but after that it doesn't seem too important.
