Are there any SPECIAL coins here?

If so, what may they be worth? I'm new to collecting and found these.

I was wondering if there was anything that struck y'all as nice and what the value may be of the nice ones? I'm new to this, but have been researching for a few weeks. I'm still trying to understand grading. The majority of the collection is Morgan Dollars, 1888,85,80 mostly uncirculatedsome proof-like and some choice. Some have deep scrathes and some have practicaly none. Most are bright, very few have been cleaned and even fewer have toning,

Welcome, but I must warn you that if you are unfamiliar with grading, as you claim to be, that I would doubt very strongly that any of your uncirculated or proof coins are actually what you think they are. They have been probably cleaned in the past and/or circulated. Bring them to a dealer and ask for a quick opinion or post them here, otherwise, I will have to play the odds and say that you have problem coins.

  • Thanks for the welcome!

I don't have a digital camera. I' have to post pics another day.

I am pretty much grading someones previous grade. Many years in storage and they were not proffesionally graded. All of the proofs have toned or darkened, but no wear and glossy metal. I'm pretty sure that at least the proofs have not been cleaned and possibly the rest.

    1-1860 SEATED LIBERTY DOLLAR, PROOF-Yes
    1-1871 SEAT, OLD CIRC-Maybe
    19 OR 20 1922-P PEACE, BU (18 OR 1B)-No
    1936 BOONE, UNCIRC-Maybe
    1853 CENT, UNCIRC-Yes
    3-INDIAN .01, 1888, 1889, (1891 UNCIR)-Maybe
    1817 CENT-Maybe
    1852 CENT-Maybe
    1875-CC, SEATED .20, (FILLED HOLE IN CENTER)-No
    1911-S, 1898-O MORGAN .25-Maybe
    1880 SEATED .25, PROOF-Yes

The 1860 dollar is worth at least $2,000 as a low end uncirculated proof maybe 5-10x that depending on grade.
Whatever you do not try to clean them up yourself. Leave them as is for now.

  • Morgan dime, quarter, and half are old terms for the Barber coins. It is even possible to find old coin folders like Whitmman folders that are for the "Morgan" dimes, quarters etc. This was caused by a ack of information about the coins back in the earl years of the twentieth century. There is a strong resembance in style between the Morgan dollar and the Barber designs and they both have a very similar profile, although facing different directions, and many people thought they were designed by the same person. Since it was known that Morgan did the dollar they applied the name Morgan to the lesser denominations as well.
