They should all have VDB on them except 1909 - 1916. Some 1909s had VDB as well, but it was on the reverse. The VDB should be on the bust on the obverse. Very small lettering.
If it was a poor strike or the coin is worn and/or dirty it may be hard to see. Its possible that the VDB got filled in with grease and did not imprint.
The VDB are incuse on the cent and will not be affected by a filled die unless most of the bust of Lincoln is also gone from the filling. Since they are incuse on the coin that means they are raised in the die and are suseptible to being ground off easily ifthe dies are excessively polished. The 1989 cents are well known for this occuring but it can be found on many other years as well to a lesser extent. When the 1989's were first hypoed back in 89 and 90 they got up to $15 apiece or so but have since dropped down to a couple dollars as a novelty item.
Conder: There are no file marks or anything that might make you think it has been tampered with. The other problem I see with it (I just notice it) the bust end of the coin is a lot thinner than the rest of it.It's almost half the thickness of the top of the coin.It looks like the the coin was tilted.None of the features are worned. It looks just like a regular Linc. outside of the "no VDB and the thin part of the coin".If the thin part of the coin was worned,I would say that's what makes it thin.None of this exists.I want to than you for your imput. This forum is the only place I can get answeres for questionable coins. My local coin dealer has no answeres.I appreciate all the feedback I receive here.
