    It will go higher.

That coin is a perfect example of the shifting standards at PCGS. If it were submitted today, it would not make the DCAM designation; it most likely wouldn't even receive the 69 grade. An excellent illustration of how dangerous it is to rely on the label - even when that label is PCGS. They were very loose during the period that one was graded.

I have recently graded 68CAMs that look better than that coin - including the coin pictured as my avatar.

DCam huh? It doesn't look frosty enough for a DCam but what really interests me is what are the marks below & behind JFK's ear? That doesn't look real good on a 69, especially @ $1,000. I know "slight" die polish is allowed on a 69 but is that "slight" or is it even polish but a rather a print?
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • Im missing something here.

Like most of the other prices they have listed, that is substantially over what the market is bringing. Real auction range is between $1200 and $2000. Highest I've seen was one that sold last Spring for $2750, but it was an absolute monster that R&I had listed - and none have come close since.

    Marty,

That one looks solid for the grade. The AH in 67CAM is about a $350 coin right now - unless it's on Teletrade where it would go to stupid money and than end up being a "not sold".

  • Anyone convinced the coin is not worthy of the Deep Cameo grade from PCGS should be a heavy bidder on this coin. If it really isn't a PR-69, then all the better. With the coin probably bringing $1,600 and a PR-68 Cameo bringing $40, that is a very attractive swing. If PCGS' current grading practices are so very stingent, then it should be a piece of cake to have the coin downgraded on a grade guarantee. But that would require conviction, not just internet chatter.
  • That coin sure looks nice.

    Hey Russ,
On the grade guarantee thing, If I get the coin say for $1000 and it's not a PR69DCAM. How does PCGS figure out what to refund???

    Marty,

I don't know how it works since I've never used it. But, I think since it's they who decide whether or not the grade is correct, the odds would not be in the submitter's favor - unless, of course, said submitter is a major dealer that can bring on some heat.

Thus, only an idiot would offer the suggestion that the coin should be purchased on that premise.
