Should PCGS change the color of their insert

As there is a new director of grading,Ron Howard, at PCGS,there must be some changes.I suggest changing the color of their insert from Blue to White. As the blue insert has been around long enough as its predessor the green insert,I suggest the new color be white.

They should have a different color for each series.

I think they should use a clear insert, w/ black text! Change the slab to a crystal clear and you would have one wicked cool looking slab! image

Stewart: It takes two years of tough grading to reignite the crackout game. We've still got a year to go with the blue insert before they change insert colors! image

I don't see a reason to change colors, now the barcode on the front is a different matter. By having the same insert whether the strict (now) or the correct (earlier), should lessen the crack out game.

Lose the barcode from the front!!!!!!!!! I don't care what color the paper is within reason.

I'd like to see the cert number on the front and back. A couple times, while imaging several coins simultaneously, I accidentally got reverse pics mixed up. Scanning each one individually takes up a lot more time.

SEGS almost does this. They have a different color insert depending on the coin metal.

Now you see, I'm on to something here. Thanks Greg. Now let's choose some colors and send them
in to that new guy Howard. I pick........hmmmmmm.........sparkling gold inserts for nickels. Anyone else?

  • Why would you need to change the color of the inserts?

    1. Dealers just have to request a $5 reholder to screw up any system brought about by new colors.

    2. PCGS has a published book that explains in detail their grading system. I certainly hope that they have bene following this all along. Maybe the fact that they haven't explains why their grading is like shooting at something with a shotgun?

  • The first green insert lasted 4 1/2 years, the second lasted about 4 years, the major blue variety lasted a little over 3 years. The current blue label with barcode on the front has only been around 8 months. The cahanges have been getting closer together but I don't forsee a significant change for at least another year or two.

A copper color insert for copper coins, a silver one for silver coins and a gold one for gold coins.

A slab for non grades but authenticity that could go into the registry would be nice.

Also a insert that is multicolored for Rainbow or toned coins.

Count me in as another vote for black and white labels as well.
