My first slabbed coin result posted today.

I have been waiting for the results of the blue nickel I sent in. What a disappointment. 1961 graded PR66 I thought it would be a 68. I have some learning to do. After I get it back maybe one of the nickel experts here I could send it to and they could tell me why it was graded so low.

    rikker,

I think I've figured out that with PCGS these toned Jeffersons get docked a point. I've had a blue that went 66, technically it was a 67. I had a lavendar that went 68, technically it was a 69. So, you were really only a point off on what you thought the coin should be. Regardless of the grade on the slab, they are still cool.image

PCGS has been tough with toned coins lately. They bodybag a lot more with "questionable" color and they no longer give big bumps in grade for eye appeal. Your coin may very well command 68 money and NGC would probably put it in a 68 slab. As others have said before, however, price guides don't mean much with attractively toned coins, so there's really no point in trying to market grade them IMO. Except perhaps as a marketing ploy to increase dealer submissions image

I got a kick out of one post I just read where guy submitted twice to PCGS and coin was bodybagged for AT. Got it into an NGC slab first attempt, however. Somehow that was interpreted as PCGS being bad and NGC good. Go figure.
