  • Hey FB won BEST MODERN SET with his 1972 Topps Baseball. It's very interesting that they put it in the modern category, but I'm sure Frank isn't complaining!

    CONGRATS!!!!!

I see that another board member took top honors in a category - JMAC won Best Modern Football with his 1972 Topps Set!. Way to go!

They also added a few categories...

<< <i>First of all, we added a few categories to the ballots like Best Topps Specialty Set, Best Overall Specialty Set, and Best Regional Set. >>

They also added a Best Vintage Set for 1960-1971. Revere's '68 Topps Set took the honors.

Best Topps Specialty set was a 3-D set!!!! But of course it was Charles Merkel's '68 Topps 3-D set - VERY WELL DESERVED indeed.

    CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS!

Congrats to all...I didn't win the big prize but I did receive an honorable mention.

The Bryant 86 Fleer PSA 10 Collection 1986-87 Fleer - Best Modern Basketball Set of the Year (1972 to present)
When you talk about the post-1970 era, few sets can compete with the significance of the 1986 Fleer issue. Filled with rookies and stars that changed the game forever, this set receives more attention than any basketball set ever produced, vintage or modern. When you look at the leaders in the 1986 Fleer category, the competition could not have been any closer. It was amazingly close, but in the end one set emerged above the others by a hair. Even MJ himself (a PSA Gem Mint 10 here) would be proud to be in this group.Carlos Aponte's dominant 1976 Tall Boy set was one consideration, but the importance of the 1986 Fleer issue and the competition within could not be ignored. Who will be the first to an all "10" set?

    Thanks gemmint!

And yes - its sweet winning in this category versus coming in 17th or 18th in a Post-War Vintage Baseball category!

  • FB, PSA states that next year the '72 Sets will again be considered for the Vintage Category. If you could put together an incredible run of 9's and 10's for your set over the next year you could be the first ever (and probably the only one for all time) Dual Vintage - Modern Winner!!!!! That's like winning Triple Crown honors in both the American and National Leagues!

  • No question - CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SET AWARD WINNERS. I've struggled to gather cards for my little piece of the set registry world. I commend anyone who completed a set or who has achieved at least 75% of a complete set.image

Speak for yourself, Rob! At 26 -- I only feel vintage when I go back to my college campus....

or see that I'm older that most pro athletest....

    or remember Atari and Intellivision...

or remember asking myself who Martha Quinn was when MTV just started...

or remember parachut pants, and wearing jams!....

or hearing my parents talk about what a great president Reagen was....

    Or, SMACK, I am vintage!
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

LOL I am 26 also and we are now both too old to be on "Real World" or try out for "American Idol". We are in that weird in between age.
