A Question on NGC and IKE dollars (UNCS)

How is NGC on grading uncirculated IKE dollars?? I was thinking about sending a few to them for grading. Any opinions?? Thanks. Richard.

  • I think the difference in PCGS and NGC in the IKE series is in the MS64-65 range. My general impression is that it is easier to get a MS 65 grade of out them in the IKES compared to PCGS. In other words, if you send in 10 similiar coins to PCGS you would get 7 MS 64 and 3 MS65 clad IKES and the same to NGC would be 4 MS 64 and 6 MS 65. I'm not sure how NGC stacks up on the higher grades MS66 and MS67, but the ones I have seen have been evenly matched between the two services.

With all of that said, I would send my coins to PCGS because the resale value is much higher when an IKE is in a PCGS slab vs an NGC slab.

    Good Luck

Hey Endo. Thanks for the reply. I thought that about the PCGS slabs, but I recently looked at a few coins, same dates, same grades, two different services, and all in all, the prices were all within a buck of each other. So, I did not think that was so bad. Anyway, thanks for the input. I still have some things to think about, or even if I want to get into the numbers game again. Any coin I send in in the future would be for my personal collection anyway.

By the way, Endo, I saw a PCGS certified IKE on eBay the other day that was pedigreed, "ENDOCRINOLOGIST"!!! imageimageimage Was that puppy yours?? It was a very nice looking coin by the way.
