6 days for the price of 7 - Ebay class action??

LakesammmanLakesammman Posts: 17,381 ✭✭✭✭✭
Anyone else bothered by the fact you get 6 days for the price of 7?? Is this truth in advertising?? Does anyone know if this is covered in the fine print??

I just checked the IHC listings and those coins listed at 10:25hrs 11-9-02 are just now being posted 11-10-02 at 0915hrs (allPST). Does this bother anyone else??image Bottom line is, if you list a coin to end on a Sat., you miss all the weekend cruisers on the front end.

If bothered by this, let ebay know....I just did.

I'm interested but not sure what your saying. There is a 24hr. delay from when I start an auction and when it shows up in the search?

Correct - it sometimes takes 24 hours for a listing to appear.

Also, there is still something wrong in their search engine. If you search "Flying eagle cents" in titles only, it shows up. If you search in titles and descriptions, it doesn't!image If you search US coins:Small cents:Flying eagle, it doesn't either. I listed the item 11-9-02 at 11:53 AM and it still doesn't show in the later 2 scenarios.

I suspect most people don't realize (a) how many items they are missing out on unless they query the data base several ways or (b) how little exposure their item is receiving in the first 24 hours.

I'm bothered by it also. I've listed a large number of coins, only to have to wait up to a day for them to show up in the database. I'm sure, at the very least, eBay's "delay" has hurt many weekend BINs.image

List at 7:00 or 8:00 PM on a Friday and they don't show up until Saturday!

Maybe the answer is a 10-day auction where you list so it sees two weekends, and ends on the weekend for snipers.

same gripe here... but noticed auctions scheduled to start at a later date/time were already indexed and appeared in the listings immediately image

I haven't encountered this problem. My auctions have consistently been appearing in the database within two to three hours.

Typically takes about 3 hours for the title to show up in the listing (re-indexing), which is still too long for me (scheduling reduces it to 0.) The description search uses a different mechanism (full-text search engine) which can take 24 hours to update.

It seems to be running about 2-3 hours to get into title searches. But I did get some bids 15 minutes after listing. I think it's this placeimage
  • Anyone know if this applies to the 10-day auctions as well?

FYI, I generally try to list on Thursdays, so that my auctions will appear for TWO FULL weekends.
