Denver VIP Strike Sac Dollars

MWallaceMWallace Posts: 4,095 ✭✭✭✭✭
Has ANYONE ever ACTUALLY seen a Denver VIP strike Sac$, or better yet, can anyone provide me with a picture of one? I have had people in the numismatic press, as well as major collectors and dealers swear to me that they exist, but when I ask them if they've ever seen one in person, they say "no". I have a web site on small size dollars and would love to have a photo of one to post on my site. Not to mention I'd like one for my collection.

Sacs are a mystery to me, the ones I got at the bank in early/mid 2000 (2000 - D) were much more satiny that those that came in my government mint sets. I don't know if that's just a die wear issue or if there was some change to the manufacture process of the planchettes.

One day I hope someone figures it all out, including all the different washes that have been used, and produced a good paper or book on the subject.
  • Mike- Welcome to the boards and thanks for the link to your very nice site! IMO, the One Concept coin for 2000 should have been the coin they used instead of the Sac. That concept would have defined America to the max.

Nice site. A printout of your page about the Magnimat planchet was in Fred Weinberg's case at the Baltimore show along with one of the actual planchets.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • I have not seen one in person but I have seen a picture of one. I don't know if I still have the picture or not. The dollar has the same burnished appearance that the Goodacre and Millennium dollars had. If I remember it was in a small square presentation box.

Let me revise to say that it was a VIP strike dollar but I don't know if it was a Denver striking or not.

Hi Mike. I am so glad you decided to join the boards. Mike has a great web site on small dollar coinage. Check out the link he has provided. You won't be disappointed. His web site was the inspiration for my collecting small dollar coins. I hope you are a regular, you have so much knowledge you can disperse here. Welcome. mdwoodsimage
