My uncle and I took Flying56Eagle down and we met up with tootawl, sadysta, merz, and kranky.
I walked the entire floor throughout the course of the day and didn't really have anything catch my eye until I stumbled on a nice lightly toned NGC PF64 1941 Merc. No off-center buffalos, nothing really flashy in my price range to speak of.
I ran across a nice PCGS AU55 '57 FE for a board member and was all set to purchase it but the guy would not take less than 225.00!
Everyone in general seemed to be VERY firm on pricing and not willing to budge much at all. Possibly because of this I did not see much money changing hands all day anywhere at the show. I overheard one dealer talking to an ANACS grader and he told the anacs guy that today was VERY slow and that nothing was moving.
I met up with the guy that had the CHAIN cent that I had been corresponding with. I ended up passing on it and think I will just find a nice solid G/VG in the near future. I did see a Nice VG one at RCNH's table but didn't think my wife would accept my explanation for spending 5K.
I had a good time with fellow members and it was nice to finally meet Kranky. I had hoped to meet TomB, Mdwoods, and Pushkin!
We had an interesting lunch and got to see merz go off the deep end just outside of the hall about his 1954 PF Lincoln. He was ok when one of his coins got a deserved upgrade!!
After lunch I helped my uncle (a newbie, whom I am going to show the ropes of the board to here in a bit) with his first slabbed coin purchase. (a really nice flashy AU50 capped bust half).
I ran into some very friendly dealers as usual. One of them told us that Rick Montgomery was leaving PCGS for NGC! (still don't know if that's true or just a rumor or he was just messing with us). Stumbled upon a very nice and friendly older dealer by the name of Ed Hipps. He had a couple of small cases but he sure had some impressive coins with most of them being raw. F56eagle and I were highly impressed with this guy and what he said.
I left with the PF merc, a SEGS CWT with a shattered obverse, some free coinworld slabs, a sample from NGC. Spent less than 250.00.
JUST REMINDED OF THIS. Flying56Eagle, who spent much of his day criticizing PCGS to merz, walked away from the show carrying a BOX@! of free blue boxes, yes PCGS boxes!!! You should feel very Dirty RON!
I also showed Sadysta a couple nice seated coins and he bought one of them after I pointed it out to him. He then walked around trying to spend my money on a Chain cent! By the way, that last one in the ANACS G4 slab, I came VERY close to buying. It sure was a nice one! Maybe you can find me one next year!
**BTW, is anyone going tomorrow that can get someone's email address for me???? There is a VERY tall skinny guy that shares a table with another guy. They are near the rear and towards the NGC/middle area. They sell alot of varieties such as 3.5 legged buffalo nickels. I would like the really tall guys email address! I lost it already. OR you can ask Larry Briggs, he should be able to tell you where to find the guy. I have seen him at Briggs' table many times. I would appreciate it. The guy recognized me immediately as the guy that's been hounding him for over a year for a 36d 3.5 legged buff.

I resent that remark"went off the deep end" well maybe a little. You know how passionate I am about my babies.LOL!!!!! read the reply I made to TomB's post on this board.
Registry 1909-1958 Proof Lincolns
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
Those 3 1/2 leggers he had for sale are mine. No '36-D 3 1/2 leg, though-all '17-D; 26-D; 27-D. I could use a 36-D too. It's a very tough coin-I've only found 3 in over 12 years of looking and traded away the last one I found for a 1913 Var 2 matte proof. Kinda wish I would have kept it.

Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...

anyone doing NY in Jan?
Go BIG or GO HOME. ©Bill
I have a problem with the dicisions that the upper Mg. make.. At the lack of YELLOW BELLY ,DANCE AROUND THE ISSUES,PASS THE BUCK,AND SO ON WAY OF HANDLEING ?'s FROM BOARD MEMBERS....
(Witch I have written, emailed, called several times with NOT ONE RESPONCE.........)
But I think there service reps. mean well and do a good job with what they have to work with.
Also There products are not that bad....
But I will say this as a fact
look at there inconstancy:::: send a coin in 2 or 3 times and you will get the grade you want.
This seamed weired, they will up grade one of there graded coins to a higher grade. *Wich happens all the time, telling us this. The frist grader was wrong or the second grader was wrong, or it may seem to pcgs that coins are like wine and get better with age?????
Or here is a good one..
Send in a comon dated coin with a good nick on the rim... (Body baged)
But send in a HIGH $ Coin with the same nick and it will come back in a holder.. Just a thoght.
Makes you wonder.
Also in fareness to Pcgs I'm sure that all or some of the top 3 gadding services do the same,**You just do not see it as often...
But remeber this is just MY thought...
Ps I hade a great time at the show...
