Question on the Lincoln cent 1970-S small and large dates. I just picked up a very nice collection in a dansco album that had a 70-S Large date and 70'S small date. The seller said the hole was filled but was unsure wether or not the small date was a small date. Well, after i received the set the small date '7' sure looks high, just like in the Red Book. I would like to know if there are varying degrees of a high and low '7' or are they all the same. I have found this a very hard difference to tell between the two types, rotating the coin makes a big difference. Any help apprieciated.

a medium date. This now is usually considered a large date and many experts believe it is just
a hubbing variety. There are also at least two very different looking large dates. One has very
thin numerals and the bottom of the upper loop of the nine points downward and looks more open.
There are also a couple DDO's ond OMM's.
The large date usually has well defined letters in LIBERTY, the loop of the nine points downward.
Some are weak strikes and will have poorly struck LIBERTY. The small date usually has weakly
defined letters in LIBERTY and the bottom loop of the 9 is nearly horizontal. A few of these will have
well struck LIBERTY. Most people find it very difficult to distinguish these by the height of the 7.
