Trading ettiquette

What is the appropriate trading etiquette, especially if you are trading coins valued in the hundreds? It would seem to me that the person initiating the trade would wait for the traded coins to come in first before sending out his coins (i.e. if I offer coins for trade, I wait for you to send yours before I send mine, since it is like a payment). There is a huge level of trust here, especially since trades cannot be stopped payment on and there are no protections. I've done one trade with a board member (Thanks Ron!), and it went great!! Just wondering what everyone's take on this is.

If I didn't know the person and I was the one offering the coin originally, then I would expect to receive his coins for trade before sending mine. After all, I am the "seller" and I would wait for payment to arrive first and his coins are the payment.
  • I've traded a few coins not worth hundreds, but generally I send my coins the next day. The other guy (gal) does the same. We usually get our coins on the same day. How about both of you sending coins via Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation and signature? The Signature confirmation doesn't cost much more and you can both track your shipments.

I've done it both ways, either send at same time or one sends before the other. Both parties insure the packages for whatever the deal is worth.

  • I have traded with members several times. Once the methods of shipment and insurance(if applicable) are worked out, I see no reason to wait before shipping my coins. Afterall, if you have a reason to mistrust your trading partner, you should not send them at all. JMOimage

  • Have you ever had a trade turn bad and send your stuff out and never received your coins?

I have never had any problems with trades on this board. I have done about five. Most of the time the person I've traded with has wanted something I had so I sent it to them and they sent me payment or merchandise within a week.
  • I have never had a trade, sale or purchase with any member of this forum go sour. I have missed or refused some deals, but that is life. I view this as a safer situation than sending money or coins to a totally complete stranger that you have little information about.

I've done both with trades; sending at the same time and having the person who published
    the trade send last.

    I don't think I've been burned yet.
