Yet another happy post about finding silver halves at the bank

Motivated by all the recent posts about finding silver halves at the bank, I went in search today.
I went to one local bank and asked for two rolls of halves. The teller insisted on counting them, so as she was counting the first roll, I could see the tell-tale whiteness of a silver half in the roll; then, as she was counting the second, I could see that they were all silver! (Be still my thumping heart, I thought, I doubt if they're all 90%ers!)
So, I immediately asked if the had any more halves. She had two more rolls, but as she counted them, I didn't see any white coins.
I took them home and the results: 21 40% silver halves!
Not bad at all!

I purchsed about 25 rolls from various locations, and found one single 40% 1968.
in the only roll the teller had. Included in the same roll was a 40%
half that served as a bonus. I felt I was reliving the old days
when it wasn't a question of finding a silver half in a roll,
since they all were, but if you were lucky enough to find a rare one.
I went to a few bank branches today but they were all closed. I planned
to get some more rolls to look through. I'll get some Tuesday for sure.

I know what you mean about dealers being unwilling to buy 40% silver halves!
I've been going to banks in my area looking for silver halves for about the last ten years and it seems that whenever the price of junk silver goes down a lot of folks just deposit their halves instead of selling them and I end up with a lot of 40% halves.
I think the bigger dealers around here will pay $12 for a roll of 40% halves, but many times the smaller dealers and some of the dealers at shows won't buy 40% halves because they don't want to tie up their capital and they don't want to haul them around!

While I've never dealt with these people, California Numismatic Investments, they seem to indicate that they will purchase your 40% halves. It might be worth a try since you might make a couple hundred with them? If you do, let me know. I just don't have the volumes of silver worth the effort yet.
