Help with taking pictures

I know this must have been asked many times...How can I take accurate pics of ..Silver, Gold, Copper Coins?...any sugestions as to what digital camera, lighting, editing software or any other equipment?...Right now I get mixed results...especially with the lighting ..pics don't look like the coin ..especially the color..any help or pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated...

If your digital camera has even decent macro capability, the most important thing usually ends up being lighting and setup (and as 007 said, trial and error.)

If you are having problems with color, look into adjusting your white balance for whatever light source you are using and try different backgrounds. After that, there is always the ability to use a good photo editor to make your picture look more like your coin.

I use a Sony Mavica FD-75 camera.
Some board members suggested using GE Reveal lighting, which I have done; it seems to bring out fairly true color of the coins.
