PCGS lists the Mercury 1928 MS65Fb at $325.00
PCGS lists the Mercury 1928 MS66Fb at $550.00
PCGS lists the Mercury 1928 MS67Fb at $11,000.00
Certified Coin Dealer lists the same at:
1928 MS65Fb at $210.00
1928 MS66Fb at $370.00
1928 MS67Fb at $1100.00
There is a major difference between the MS67Fb values?
Does this make sense to anyone, will someone explain how
the lower grades are only $100-$200 apart, while the upper grade
is $10,000.00 apart?
I think pricing should be used as a tool for information in purchasing
decisions? How is a buyer to make an intelligent decision when the price guides don't show current or inflated figures? I know the population has allot to do with prices, however in this situation the MS66 is 56/496 and the MS67 is 5/496. I am sure the difference between 56 best in the world and 5 best in the world would be this far apart?

Owen,
I don't know this for sure, but I would say the 11,000 is a misprint.
Jon
and the chance of locating a pop 5 coin is a lot harder than a pop 50 something coin
Tim
want the same coin and how deep there pockets are, I usually look at past
auction prices to get an idea at what the market is bringing on low pop mercs
once you get below a pop10 or 15 the prices can get really high

PCGS grades are opinions and Only opinions. I believe we have documented proof here on these forumns that the assigned grades can be all over the place, depending on the mood the grader was in on a certain day. On a common date coin like the 28P, IMO, it would be Fool Hardy too spend a Huge Amount of money on the coin just for a arbitrary number assigned by someone other than yourself.
When collecting in the grades of 67 and higher I believe you need to see the coin yourself, evalulate the coin and then decide Exactly what you, yourself, thinks the coin is worth. The Price Guides do not count at all with Mercs in these grades of 67 and higher.
What I am trying to say is the Best Guide is Yourself. The others are just a bunch of Hog Wash that someone would like you to believe.

is right it all depends on who wants the coin and how bad
example I recently made a 42-p in 68fb a pop 2 coin, a 67fb sells for
around $300 or so but one of the big guys saw it and wanted it
and made a huge offer for it so it is now his.It all depends on timing
and the demand.just my thought on this.
