1999-P PA quarter inMS68 on eBay

MS68 PA quarter!!
This coin is at $1300++ with 8 days left and the reserve is not yet met! Is this a bargain? Or are there a bunch more 1999 MS68's waiting to be made? Will this coin keep its value or will it be a $500 coin in a year?

No one can accurately predict where the price of this coin will go. Too many variables. However, there have been 1,151 graded so far since 1999 and only 7 have hit MS68 with none higher. You should also understand that it is very possible that several hundred more have been sent to PCGS with the instructions to only grade them MS67 or higher and, thus, they were not graded and encapsulated and are not reflected in the pop report. In addition, several MS67s have most certainly been sent in for regrade and did not make MS68. I seriously doubt with dealers and collectors now looking carefully at all the old 1999 mint sets that there large numbers of MS67s and MS68s of this coin still out there to be graded. That is, of course, assuming that PCGS does not change their grading standards. I call a coin with only 99 MS67s and 7 MS68s, out of a recorded 1,151 graded, rare in MS68. If the series continues to build in popularity, you will find $1,300 to be a cheep price and a coin you will want in your current collection.

    Well said professor. image

As you know, when this coin was pop 1/0 it commanded around $7000 on Teletrade. I believe I know the collector who bought it; I do not know for sure who made it and who the lucky seller was. Time will tell what this coin settles in at as a "market value".

Also, remember that PCGS was very, very strict on its grading of early 1999 MS quarters. I am aware of one coin already that upgraded from the 1999 series where the collector paid strong, strong money on its face for the coin way back when, but it recently upgraded to the next highest PCGS grade and the coin was instantly sold for more than 2x the original cost (and the buyer viewed that price as fairly "cheap").

I'll be watching this auction as well. Wondercoin

I wish Mr. Murphy would post more. He probably knows more about grading statehood quarters than anyone.
