Your opinion on a coin.

I have been looking at this one for a few days.
I can't make up my mind if it's worth bidiing on or not.
It's pcgs graded but I think it might have been grade bumped for the toning.

Link to the coin.

  • I concur, quite a few bagmarks for the grade?

Not sure if there are as many bagmarks on the obverse as it appears.....may be the splotchy toning that gives it that appearance. Strike is superb, luster looks to be held back a bit but it's a picture. It may very well be a very nice coin.

I personally don't like the toning for a Morgan and the reverse has some "funk" along the eagle's neck and below the eagle and along the wreath, but......it's on the reverse. All in all, a reasonable price for a $160-$180 coin with eye appeal toning. Put a rainbow on that baby and it's a $750 coin!image

I think this coin must be seen in person but I would not worry too much as I think it would be very easy to resell and get your $250 back. mike image

I agree with Darktone, its difficult to tell if the cheek had chatter or its the toning, but if you get it at $250 not a bad deal. Unfortunately you can't see it in person, but I don't see any downside to it.

i;m not overly thrilled w/ the looks of that coin, but its totally a subjective thing. if you like it at all, i'd say go for it, & don't worry about the $.

I don't know a lot about morgans or toned coin but it is a fairly common date and grade for a morgan. now the toning is something else. tone coins sell at wicked crazy prices. what the hay if you like it and can afford it go for it. like darktone said you shouldn't have any probelm resaling it at price, if you don't want to keep it.

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

I personally am not experienced enough to offer an opinion on toned Morgans. I just thought I would add a link to some recent sale history for your evaluation.

I would think that toning is hiding quite a bit - - but at $250 - you can't get burned too too bad

I don't think it should be MS66, but the toning is interesting. Personally, I'd buy it at MS-65 price.
