3 cent nickel with errors?

I just got this neat 3 cent nickel today and I was not sure about the rim and denticles- it looks kind of odd and I thought some of you error collectors could tell me a little more about it. It has some neat die clashing, strike doubling, Longacre doubling, repunched date along with the rim oddity. Thank ahead of time for helping. mike

1865s are notorious for die clashes. Well, the whole series is, but 1865 are one of the most common dates for prominent die clashes.

Pity it looks like the coin has been cleaned.

the rim may have been hammered outside the mint, but looks like a problem due to a partially broken collar.

actually, if you can find a 1865 3c-n w/ NO clashmarks and NO evidence that the dies were polished to efface the clashmarks, it is a rare coin & worth a significant premium (hint hint) to a specialist.

Thanks Karl, I agree most of these do have die clashing but most have been polished off and don't show the outline this good and if you look close the clashing has a double image. The rim does not look hammered (I am familiar with hammered coins) but the broken collar thing does sound interesting. mike
