A Public Thank You to a fellow forum member! Some good news!

A couple of weeks ago I won a nice PCGS MS66 Lincoln cent on Ebay from a fellow forum member. I sent a PayPal payment for the auction right away, and I get an email from the seller saying he could not accept the my payment because he just realized that the coin had some carbon spots on the reverse but would send the coin to me anyway at no charge. After a couple more email exchanges with me saying I’ll pay for the coin, and him refusing my payment each time, I told him I would donate the coin on receipt to my little collecting son. The coin arrived and my son was very happy with the coin for his collection, little carbon spots and all.

A couple of weeks later I see this same forum member auctioning off another nice wheat cent, I win the auction, send him a PayPal payment and the coin arrives today. Actually my coin, and three other coins are in the same envelope. The other three coins are each marked with “for Mark”. This forum member graciously gave my son three more coins for his collection. This really made my kids day.

I’m not going to reveal the name of the forum member unless he wants to reveal himself. With all the negative posts I’ve seen over the last couple of weeks I just thought I would share some good news for a change and to publicly say thanks for his generosity.

Frank

Nice to hear something positive for a change. But why not give credit publicly, unless you think the person would be embarrassed?

What an OUTSTANDING thing to do! image

    Fostering fledgling numismatists. That's excellent.
You are right about the negativity. It has certainly diminished my enthusiasm of late. This is a great little story,
and while I can guess who it WASN'T - it'd be great to know who it WAS.

If any of the folks would like to get together and maybe pool some donated coins for the kiddies, I'd be happy
to throw some in. I think this sets a great precedent - one that we should pursue. Maybe members could let us know
when a birthday or special occasion might be coming up and we could send a little gift? Just a thought. image

edit: added bold emphasis. C'mon guys... show us what you're made of. This is a terrific idea.

Thank you for sharing this piece of good news.

I found out earlier this week that a woman I've known for 24 years -- whom I know better than some family members -- went to the hospital for a routine medical procedure & they found ovarian cancer. She'll make it, thank God. Still, in light of this, news of a random act of kindness makes my day a little bit better.

  • I'm sure with the great detective skills this group has, the secret sender will soon be revealed!

I think it's a great idea to send out coins to young collectors for birthdays or other special days. Let's give up some of those old coins you no longer need to a young collector.

  • Ok, I'll throw out a guess as to the identity of the sender:

Based on the comments in this thread, I am starting a new thread titled Coins for Kids. I think this is a great bunch of people, and I'm happy my son talked me into joining this forum.
