My Latest Addition to My Washington's

Take a look at my latest addition to my Washington set, 1932-D Obverse and 1932-D Reverse, I've waited a long time to get one of these. I now need to get a 1936-D and I'll have a complete set from 1932-1998. Of course I'll go back and start upgrading, but I'm set om completing this set first.
What grade do you think this would go if submitted?

I suck at grading circ strikes, but I'll say AU58 or low MS(62-63) ranges.

Okay, now everyone can tell me how wrong I am!

  • well, I thought it might go MS64 before I read anyone else's thoughts, so I will stick with my guess. It would really work well in my collection of washingtons...I can tell you that!!!!!!!!!!!!image

  • I'm surprized to see a possible MS 32-D raw. I would be really nervous about purchasing a mint state key date Washington raw, especially if I was going to kick down MS money for it.
  • This is a very nice coin, and is better than what it was purchased as, I can promise you, having saw the coin in person. It looks a little rougher in the picture than in person. The coin was bought slabbed by a reputable grading co. I'm glad you put it up here for the forum Terry. This guy has an incredible set of pure white, lusterous silver Washington quarters.
  • As Andy007 has pointed out this coin was cracked out of a reputable slab. I felt the coin was under graded and it fits well in my set. This coin is MS and was graded so in the slab, and has better than average strike, The luster is not as good as I would like but better than most 1932-D's that I have seen.image

Great coin! I, however don't think that it looks mint state. Maybe a weak strike has me confused, but I would say AU58. By the way, your coin is very nice-- MS 60 means UNC butt ugly.

  • Congratulations, it's a nice coin and the hardest one to find. Have you got a registry set?

Pretty full breast feathers, luster appears to be pretty good, light rub on curl by ear, and light friction on hair by forehead. I'd say a very nice AU55-AU58. The only distraction is the light hairline on the obverse behind the bust. The date looks pixelated, but I am sure that is just the picture. Such a tough coin to find unmolested. I like it alot.image

Looks MS63 at best. Reputable grading must mean NGC .. which is a matter of opinion. I like the reverese though. Hope you are not expecting that much out of this coin. It probably was submitted a couple of times already to get the higher grade. This coin only makes sense to upgrade from MS63, but that didnt figure into my grading.. just justifies it!! Good luck.. let us know how it comes out.
HAVE A GREAT DAY! THE CHOICE IS YOURS!!!!
  • One last thought on this coin, It seems to be original and never cleaned. I know it's hard to tell just by looking at the photo, but there is a hazy tone over the entire surface obverse and reverse. There is a good underlying luster, I've held this coin at ever angle possible with different powered loupe's and I can find no evidence of breaks in the luster, due to friction. The high points are solid. It was hard to tell when the coin was in the slab, but for the price I paid I feel it was a very good purchase.image

I could see this coin slabbed NGC MS66 and fly off the shelf in a NY minute.

Looks like a small scratch or large hairline behind washington's head and in my experience submitting coins this will limit the coin to a 64 but looks to have a good shot at it. Let us know how it turns out. Mike image
