My old album did some pvc damage to my coins so I had to chuck it. I have asked all my local coin dealers about a new album for type, they all said no one makes them any more. Is this right, and if I can locate an older one, how do I know it won't pvc damage my coins? thanks,Mark

The Dansco #7070 album is less than $20 and well worth it, in my opinion. It even has ports for four commemorative halves of your choice, and they sell an additional add-on page for gold, if you wanted that.
Of course, if you're talkin' just 20th century type, there's a much wider selection. Just about everybody offers one of those. For protection, Intercept is probably the best. But last I checked, I do not recall them offering a 19th & 20th century type album. Dansco is still one of the few, I believe. If you like, I'll bet I could sniff out a source of a Dansco #7070. PM me if you want to find one. There are also members here who sell supplies who might be able to help.
PS- I do not recommend using proof coins in the Dansco album. Their surfaces can be adversely affected by slide marks, caused by the clear slides being pulled in and out. I also had a problem with them hazing and spotting, though that is more likely a product of this particular environment (sea air and sulfuric paper mill emissions) than it is the fault of the album. I never had any problem with business strike coins in my Danscos. I still use Dansco albums #7371, 7372, and 7373 for my Irish coin collection.

abmluce- I wondered if your old album was a Dansco. I used the #7070 in the early 1990's and again in the late 90's, before switching to slabs only. Perhaps the older ones had PVC issues?
If Intercept is doing a full type set album, that would be worth investigating, and would probably be a lot better than Dansco or Whitman. I think they already have a 20th century type set out (?)
I would follow tootawl's course of action, or maybe buy drsvenghali's old Whitmans if the price was right and they are in decent shape. I used to have an old Whitman Classic album for British Queen Victoria type coins, long out of print, I'm sure. When I swapped the coins to my local dealer, I let the album go with them. Having since had a new daughter named Victoria join our family, I regret that decision, as I am starting a collection of Victorian coins for her. I'd love to find that British Victorian Type Whitman album again, even a decent used example.
We anticipate the release of the album sometime in late spring of 2003.
