Malik Allen: From ABL to Heat Starting PF! no surprise to cweb and rick adelman..

Two years ago, Malik Allen was a Sacramento King -- for a preseason.

An undrafted free agent, Allen was the final player cut just before the regular season began.

Before Allen left, Kings forward Chris Webber had some words of encouragement.

''When he left our camp, I remember telling him, `I'll see you next year, don't let this discourage you,'' Webber said. ``It was just a matter of time, you could tell.''

After a season in the ABL, Allen joined the Heat. One season later, he's a starter with Miami, scoring 15 points with six rebounds and two blocks Sunday against his former team. Webber and the Kings saw it coming.

''It doesn't surprise me that he's made the team and is playing well,'' Kings coach Rick Adelman said. ``We really liked him as a player. He's very tough.''

Webber recalled Allen's toughness.

''When I was checking him it didn't matter how much of a height advantage I had on him because he knew how to use his leverage,'' Webber said.
