I this auction the work of a couple of shill bidders? Also does something look wrong with this coin? Why wouldn't a BU coin be slabbed? hmmm...

Quoting DaveG on a raw bust dollar we saw yesterday- "it's the kind of coin that if it's not in a slab, there is a reason for it."

Don't know if it's a shiller.. to tired to think about it image

I've never bought anything from this seller, but he frequently lists Two Cent pieces, so I've been watching his auctions for a while. I don't think I've seen him list any slabbed coins, just raw, since I've been checking.

It would get bagged for questionable toning.

I believe that the "questionable toning" prooflike mentioned is actually unnatural color due to a cleaning. One often leads to the other.

Two major scratches over the lower feathers might be a start to the question you answered. No way it will slab other than ANACS. BU details/scratched, net whatever.

How about a little hint here so I have a direction to go in. What should make me think the auction is being shilled? Tell me & I'll be glad to look.
I don't really see anything bad about the coin and there is a return policy.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • I'm not an expert in shill bidding techniques, but I would look at the bidders on the list for this item and look at their bidding history, like what they've actually bought, if they've bid on this sellers auctions before. Shill bidders usually bid during the auction middle, and not at the end. They want to create the illusion of bidding action, so if they bid a lot and never win, that's one sign.

An obvious one is their similarities to the seller, name, location, etc...

Don't know about the toning, but it sure has nice detail. Bidding looks kind of suspicious.
