  • Old firm that was active from about 1986 to late 1987, based in Carson City NV. they were also associated with PNGL out of Washington DC, IGA out of Atlanta GA, and ICGS out of Hong Kong. They were all trying to jump on the band wagon over third party grading that was skyrocketing at the time but the were all using photocertificates at a time when the industry was moving towards slabs. None of them had the capital or the name recognition of the founders that PCGS an NGC had and they quickly fell by the wayside.
  • Where they considered reliable.
  • Sorry I don't give opinions as to the grading ability of various firms. The answers would have no basis in reality. By what standards could I answer? If they were reliable at the time does it still relate to grading standards of today? No. Standards change. Even the wonderful PCGS's standards have not remained irresolute over the year but have loosened and tightened over the years. People today say that "The early PCGS slabs were undergraded!" Were they? Or could we not equally say that todays PCGS slabs are overgraded? Who is to say which is wrong and which is right? Or since standards change are both wrong?

What most people really mean when they ask that question is "Can I depend on the grade they called it then as being equal to what it would be graded today?" How can I say? I don't know how the grader will be feeling when he sees the coin, what his mood is or even what standards will be in place at the time. And as always the only opinion which has any real bearing is do YOU like the coin at the price? No one else can or should make that decision for you.
