Home Buy, Sell & Trade - Cards & Memorabilia

Does anyone agree with MY hobby argument.

Everyone knows that cards from 91-95 aren't worth anything because they were the most MASS produced basketball card years of all time and the product is soo abundant.
I truly believe that this is happening again but with GU and AUTOS. Back in the day there were only fleer, ultra, topps, tsc, ud, hoops and skybox. Now EVERY company has about 5 different products and UD has nearly double. Every product has jerseys and autos and the same players are focused on each year.
SO in reality each player has hundreds and thousands of jersey cards and auto cards out there and in about ten years time I think people will look back to these times and say, WOW those guys really overproduced, nothing is really rare because even though things are # to 100 each player has these low #d in each product of each year so really there are thousands.

  • i agree with the jerseys part....not the autos...
  • Autos will always be popular. I think gu will continue to be popular as well because although there are many of them, they are still short printed and they look nice.

  • quicksilver, your right actually. there aren't as many autos as jerseys but how far has UD taken the jersey concept. They have WAY too many. UD Jerseys, jersey patches, jersey super patches, auto jersey. combo jerseys, combo jersey's gold, jersey silver, jersey bronze e.tc
    Its rediculous.

  • Go back and look at the football and basketball rookie classes from 91-95, and what percentage are still stars. That didn't help.
  • i agree... so collect only who you like, cause it wont mean much in a few years...
    it will grow tiring...

  • There are WAY, WAY too many sets produced.. about 40+ in each sport. They definitely need to cut out some and not every set (granted a couple don't) should have Jerseys or Autos. It's just insane. Whatever happened to the day people were thrilled to just pull the base rookie of a player, or pull an insert that wasn't autographed, contained a swatch of something, or serial numbered. I don't agree about the part of 1991-1995 cards, it wasn't that they were mass produced but just had no flair and were all just base style cards. It was a slow time for rookies in almost all sports as well... except maybe Shaq but even his rookie is very undervalued.

  • The future of game used cards is doomed.

The only game used cards that will hold their value is of vintage players.

The future of sports cards modern sports cards will be collecting for fun, not for an investment.
