Covina Coin Company

I am going to sell some coins to Covina Coin Company in response to their add in CoinWorld. They appear to be buying at close to Greysheet Bid. Has anyone had good/bad experience with this company?

Any input is appreciated.

  • I bought a few coins from them - no problems - nice coins image

  • I bought some raw proof and double mint sets a year or two ago. Drove out there since it is only an hour or so for me: found them to be very freindly; willing to take as much time as I wanted; and willing to sell the coins at a fair price. No complaints here!!

I've found their buy prices look fairly attractive compared to the work of selling off lower priced proof & mint sets. If you sell to them, let me know how it goes. I've always wondered what buyers like that do with less than perfect items... the proof set with some carbon spots on the cent, or spotted silver coins. (I don't mean horrid sets... just below average... do these get returned?

If it's the Covina Coin Comp in Covina, California, they're great. Tracy is one of the nicest people. Have only bought a couple of items from her, but it's always been a pleasure.

I've sold to them several times. The payment usually takes 3 to 4 weeks but one time it was around 8 weeks. Other than I'd like to have my money a bit faster, it has all been smooth.

  • What street are they on? If your talking about Leroy, he is a top notch guy! Ive bought from him many times, although not lately. He probably wishes he would have held on to his 10th Anniversary Gold Set, this is where I got my 95W Silver Eagle, sold me the set for $1600. As far as selling to him, I dont know!

  • I used to search mint and proof sets by the truckload, so at one time or another I've tried all the wholesalers to sell stuff to... and without reservation I can state Arizona Coin & Jewelry is by far the best I've used -- never any problem with them honoring quoted prices, and super fast checks.

If they don't list a price for something, you can fax them a list or call... I've even talked them into taking stuff they said they didn't want. Wasn't for top dollar, but better than a separate shipment elsewhere. They'll also take "problem" stuff (like proof sets without cardboard packaging) at a discount.

I never had any major problem with Covina, but ditto the slow payment comments... I got tired of having to call them to spur things along and eventually just stopped using them.

Depending on what you're selling, you might also look into Littleton. If they need something, they are often the top buyer around. Payment is slower than Arizona, but reliable.
  • I can see Littleton paying top dollar, they can afford to, God knows they charge enough!

I've had the exact same experience when selling as has Supercoin. The best two by far are Arizona Coin and Jewelry and Littleton. The people at Covina are nice but have had portions of my sold coins returned for unknown reasons.

Covena is very slow to pay.
Littleton is a strong buyer but is super selective. Expect to get back a major portion of raw coins.
Haven't sold to Arizona but was sure surprised when I dropped in for a look. If it is the same one as I went to, it is a pawn shop. Their sister shop is a full fleged coin, jewelry and collectable place. Got some nice coins there.
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?

Very slow payer, but other than that, OK.

  • I bought a couple of nice 1909 VDB's PCGS MS65-66 RD's from them. They shipped fast, but it took them 30 days to leave feedback.

The bottom line is I would buy from them again. image

I have yet to sell anything to them, so I don't know about that part.

I am looking for any PCGS MS 70 Silver Eagle.
