Hi Everyone,
There is a buyer named Rockets Lover on Ebay. This guy has been buying up everything under the sun and paying ridiculous prices? For some reason, it seemed he stopped buying and retracted about 25 bids. Do you think he ran out of money or did the scam just end???

I have noticed that he has really been spending the cash also and think that either one of the following addages seem appropriate:"A fool and his money are soon parted ",or "Sooner or later the well always runs dry". It would be interesting to see if this really is a scam.If you want to see a guy that really seems to have a lot of cash and seems to use it wisely, check out "woodman10" on E-Bay.

There was a huge thread on this guy a week or so ago.
How can you find the bid retractions he's had?

Tipem, It may be a scam, it just sounds too far fetched that this guy is spending this kind of cash. Maybe it is the Brooklyn in me. Anyway, Woodman (Chet) is a really nice guy. He has bought some stuff from me and a pleasure to deal with.
MickeyC, I did not know about last week's thread. If you go to this guys feedback on Ebay, under the feedback screen on the right side is bid retractions, that is how you find it. It just puts up a red flag with me. A guy who has this kind of money can not be a complete idiot to spend like this on cards. Now all of a sudden, he starts to retract bids like crazy? What happened the money ran out (or what I think), the credit card maxxed out.
Crazysc, I get bored too, but not after spending a hunderd thousand on something in a month. It's just a little fishy.
Hi Alohet/Ed, yep those Red Hearts were from me. That was a nice set, but not as nice as the whole set I have up. 52 Bowmans are getting too damm expensive these days.
Hi PC, I believe his purchases were confined to Ebay because when I spoke to Chris Porter and Brian Drent, they have no clue who this guy is and I disagree with you, Joshnoga and myself are two of the best buyers to hit the boards in the last year (as far as consistancy goes). I may not have spent that kind of money in that short a period of time, but consistancy counts. I am also not that stupid to spend $3150.00 on a PSA 6 1941 DiMaggio card. This guy bought one card from me and I questioned the sale. I hope I do not get the dreaded message from Paypal that there is a reverse on that transaction.
Do you know if any one has ever gotten a check from this guy or only Paypal???
Downgoesfrazier, It took this guy 10 days to pay me with Paypal on one transaction. I heard the stories of the madd mail and the first time I sent him an Email, it bounced back.
In closing, I hope for all of the sellers out there that this guys is just a multi millionaire with nothing to do with his money and not some scam artist. If he is, you are going to see alot of the cards he bought pop up soon. I keep a history of all the serial #'s of the cards I sell in my sales database. If anything strange should come up with him, I will post another message to this board. Have a great Sunday.

The problem is he did not wait to get an experience because some of the stuff he bought is worth 50 cents on what he paid for it. Did you hear about the private CSA deal with him? I think everyone else did. If you think he spent alot on Ebay, think again. He came up really fast and now he is going away realy fast. It just goes to show everyone, you should always look before you leap. I am sure those CSA 9's which he paid over SMR for will go up in value in about 200 years. What a waste. Do you know what guys like us (most of the people in this forum) could have built with that kind of money.. Oh well.
Later,
Mike
I am not sure what his motivation was, other than to spend money in a hurry. He was all over the place in his purchases. The only thing that was consistent was that he over paid for every single card. I know that he did several off ebay transactions and am well aware that he ended up with not only CSA graded cards but PRO graded cards as well.
The guy dropped money with no regard for the purchases and no real focus. I feel that the way that he did it, over paying so significantly in such a short period of time is not indicative of the behavior of a collector. I guess we will never know exactly what was going on.

I believe this guy was taken for a ride at the middle to end of the buying spree. He won 1 of my auctions which he paid for right away with a buy it now, but many others he was bumped up in my opinion. Certain dealers are mostly about money. They would rather hit a homerun selling a card than a bunch of singles (a little baseball analogy). Shilling goes on Ebay all of the time. It's hard to prove. If you look at some of his past auctions, he paid crazy amounts of money for items, which would have never gone so high. This guy wasn't like Calvin Cronise who had a passion for building sets, he just spent and spent and everyone knew he had no clue. The only card I sold him was about $20 over SMR and I am one of the fair priced (around SMR) sellers on Ebay (a plug for myself ). Otherwise I think one of the killers was a 41 PlayBall DiMaggio for $3000.00+. Now how the hell did a card like that go for that kind of money??? I think it was bumped. That is my opinion. They smelled the blood and went in for the kill. I just hope the guy doesn't whack out and start selling this stuff for 10 cents on the dollar. He should hold on to it for about 100 years so it can catch up to what he paid for it. Either way, it is a pretty cool topic of discussion. I really envy him in one respect, if I had that kind of money, which he spent on my favorite hobby, wow, the stuff I would own would be incredible!!! It's like the Lottery dream. "If I had a Million Dollars" (I still can't sing). Only some of us saw him actually live out the dream, which was pretty cool. Farewell, Chris. The party was fun while you were here. Hopefully you can shake the money tree again in the near future and adopt me.
Have a great night everyone.
Mike
