I thought I had my first PSA 10 ...

I submitted several cards and all of them received the grades I guessed on. One of them was a 1978 Topps Gaylord Perry, and I thought this was a my first 10 .... perfect in every way. But a PSA 9 is what it was slabbed.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Has anyone else been getting shut out when it comes to getting a PSA 10?

I just rec'd my second vintage PSA-10, a 1936 S&S game card of Pirate Floyd Young. 2 interesting points of interest, it is the 1st S&S ever to garner the coveted "10" in 559 submissions, and it was a free submission since my set exceeded 75%, and since I already have Young in a PSA-9, I probably wouldn't have submitted this on my own, the 2 free grades I was entitled to, gave me the push, the other free grade was a Woody English that rec'd a PSA-5, go figure! Since this set has limited appeal and only 2 have registered it, I traded it to the #1 set holder for a variety of cards I needed. I am #2 on the registry w/ a 98.08 completion (need only Luke Appling) at 8.10 grade average. Thanks PSA for the Free submission program, I suggest you all take advantage of it...jay
  • I would, but I'm afraid image

  • I have had extremely good luck as of late. Ive recieved 8 10's in the last month out of about 100 cards submitted. 82 Ripken, 82 Stargell, 82 Bench, 83 Reggie Jackson, 82 RBI leaders (Schmidt), 88 Fleer Schmidt, 90 Topps Tiffany Schmidt, 83 Donruss Schmidt. I just sent in 14 Mike Schmidt cards that could all be 10's but will probably be 9's. Ive been keeping stats on my submissions and im hitting 89% on my educated guesses on what the grades will be.
  • Also resubmitted a couple of 8's that came back as 9's :-)

    Love it when that happens!!!

I've received one ten out of around 4000 cards submitted. It was a 1973 common.

  • I have found that they grade newer cards higher.I have received probably 15 tens, all in either 90 Leaf, which is pretty good,92 Bowman, which are great for high grades, and 92 Stadium Club Dome sets.I have just started grading vintage,so I will see how good my eyes are.
Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.

I have had some decent luck with 10s. Out of about 400 plus I have recieved 7. Keep in mind I send in 70s and early 80s for the most part.

The best 2 were a 77 Cloth Brett and a 77 playing card of Rose.

    Looking for 77 cloth 9s and 10s.

    LBJ17...

I think that Rose playing card was a touch easier than the Cloth sticker of Brett....

Fabric is always a bear!!! Congratulations!!!

  • I got two 10's out of about a dozen '68 Topps cards that I bought from someone on eBay. Also in that dozen were a bunch of 9's. These are the only vintage 10's that I've gotten, and I've gotten only one other 9, although it was a doozy. I got a couple of 10's in something over 100 '78 Topps and one out of maybe five '90 Leaf.

  • I submit only vintage except for an occasional exception. I've received two ten's back. A 1964 topps Jim Kaat and a 1960 Nu Card hi-lites Gil Hodges. They are tuff-tuff-tuff and few and far between. I don't look for them myself. Then when they come out of the clear blue I'm like a child on Christmas morning.
I collect the 1960 and 1961 Nu Card issues. I also enjoy the 1959 Fleer Three Stooges.
