Maybe this might help explain why PCGS is getting weird on grading......(File is 222k)

When I first saw this ad from a Casino in Mississippi, I didn't think much other than it was a piece of junk mail.

Then I looked at the slab closer - yep - it's a PCGS slab.

Are they grading raw nuggets these days for gimpy low rent Casino promo's? No wonder they aren't paying attention to our coins - too much income from other sources. After reading stories fromothers here - this may shed a little light on why the graders aren't doing as consistent a job as they used to.

  • hey! It just occured to me that my son has a rock collection that has a few interesting specimens in it.

Wonder if we sent them in....would they encapsulate them? AND put a certification on them? imageimage

  • I dont see the big deal, I would want to know that they are real gold nuggets and how much they weigh if I were buying them.

Actually, that was done quite some time ago, maybe a year or more. So I don't think it would effect the turnaround time.

  • mnmcoin is right these have been out for well over a year now. Bowers and Merena were also involved with selling those things and possibly may still be. You have to remember there is a very strong tie between the dealer group that owns the SS Central America treasure and the dealer group who are the majority owners of PCGS. Several dealers are in both groups.
  • It is gold from the SS CCentral America. There's no way you could sell those nuggets unless they were slabbed. I can understand. PCGS graded a lot of the stuff recovered from the Central America.

I think these sets are neat. I'd be willing to pay $75 for one. $295 seems like a major ripoff, but no worse a ripoff that the double eagles that were sold from this ship.
