Do you have a 1514? I'd love to see a scan of the whole coin, if you do.

I collect morgan patterns and the 1514 your using for your icon is in my collection. I'll try to attach a scan of the obverse image Sorry I don't have a larger image. I do have a larger image of the obverse of my 1512 which is identical if you'd like to see it.

Please do show me. FYI, if interested, J1588 closes on eBay today (NGC69, former PCGS 68 Bass).

I believe the same die was used for the obverse on the 1514 and the 1512.

    They really are beautiful.
  • Since until recently all dies were made at the Philadelphia mint it doesn't seem too likely that a set of pattern dies would be made at the Philadelphia mint and then shipped all the way across the country and used to strike patterns which would then have to be shipped all the way back across the country to be examined by those in charge of making the decisions as to whether or not they would be accepted. the closest I can think of something like it happening was when San Francisco struck the 1861-S Paquet designed double eagles. But they were the accepted design when the dies were shipped out. It wasn't untill later that the idea of using them was scrapped and by the time the S mint could be notified they had already been put into production and coins distributed to the banks.

Another "close" example would be the experimetal production runs of business strike 2000-S golden dollars that were produced. But those experimatal runs took place at the Philadelphia mint.

Here's a "close but no cigar" pair - the "No S" pattern 1915-S Pan Pac Gold Dollar and half dollar pieces. image
