Can you help walk me through this?

There's this coin on ebay that I'm quite interested in. It has a reserve that seller puts at "y" dollars. Currently 3 bids have been made and "reserve has not been met". If I instantly make a bid of y+z, Will the new 4th bid read the reserve amount y and y+z is my safety net bid? I can only assume so, but am I wrong?!?

Your bid will be the reserve since it has been met - but your safety will not post as long as you're the top bidder - it will increase incrementally by the minimum bid amount above the next bid as long as that bid is below your safety.
