What Vintage Set Has the highest total Pop?

What would you guys guess? Pre-80 and overall (modern too)? I was really suprised looking at some of the total numbers of cards that have been graded in each set...
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?

    crazysc...

My guess (if I'm reading your thread correctly) would be the 1972 Topps baseball set......787 cards to get...Fairly easy to find in graded and raw...Available at shows from coast to coast...Maybe 45 or so guys on the registry........A complete set in 9 is not out of the question....All the factors that lead to lots of submissions.

I'm not sure I understand the question either. Are you talking total cards submitted for an entire set? Or the most cards graded for the average of the set. For instance the beloved 1970 Kellogg's have an abundance of all the cards in the set graded (w/ exception of C.May) But that will pale in comparison to the total submitted for the '68's or as the King stated the '72's...jay
  • Sorry...question:

What set do you think has received the total number of submissions by PSA? For instance, the T206 set has had slightly under 20,000 total cards submitted/graded by PSA.

What set has received the most total cards? Vintage & modern?

On brucemo's thread on the SC&M forum, he mentions '86 Fleer basketball has had over 65,000 submissions. If there's another set that has THAT many, I'd like to know what it is.

Another question- Which single card has the most submissions? (I asking. I don't know. My guess would be either McGwire's '85 Topps or Griffey's '89 UD.)
  • There are actually a handful of modern sets with submissions over 65,000 cards...I know because I caused a fair amount of the population there...

    crazysc...

Well, looks like its not the '72 BB set.

31,742 submissions is all it could muster..

Well. . .I was bored so I ran the numbers.
The total submission numbers for 1949 to 1980 sets can be found here. The numbers are current as of 31 October.

    Thank you, drive thru.

Mike - Good Job! I'm sure many of us were curious where our own sets stand in total pop, the tally was very interesting...jay

I keep thinking about this question.

I reason that PSA's big splurge was a couple of years ago and McGwire came to mind...So I looked it up...

1985 Topps BB submissions were over 60,000!!! Wow!!

    However...
    Mark McGwire had..........42,081
    Roger Clemens had.........13,709
    and
    Kirby Puckett had..............2,659

    Total for 3 players............58,449

The rest was divied out to the other 789 player cards!!!

    crazysc...this is a great question!!!

  • If I had to guess on modern (and I haven't checked all of them), I'd place some of the highest submissions on:

87 Donruss - biggest reason, because it has 3 major rookies (Maddux, Mac, Bonds) and another close (Palmeiro)
    89 TT
    89 UD
    85 Topps
    86F BK
    86TT

  • Thanks, Mike for the list. So it looks like '56 topps is the most, followed by '61 and '57 topps.

    Thanks for the question, Sol.

    Interesting-

    1975 Topps - 29,147
    1975 Topps Mini- 7,955

So why does it seem that there is no longer much difference in price for singles on ebay.

That's an interesting list. I was thinking '52T would be highest because it's just the most in demand overall, and it does come in 4th. 57T I understand, 61T I understand, but 56T would not have been in my first 15 guesses as the most submitted (by far). With no key RCs, no real "milestone" cards, either, I guess it's a combination of strong-but-not-overwhelming demand, beautiful design (always one of my favorites), and I don't know but I'd assume there's a good supply of nice cards.
