Pricing question for Washington proof collectors.

RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
I just bought this 1964 69CAM for my 1964 set. Auction was closing very early this morning, and I didn't really want it that bad, so I tossed in a stupidly low bid last night and ended up getting it for $26. This is $9 less than I paid for the 68CAM it's replacing.

So, I decided to check past auctions for these to see what they should sell for, and the prices realized are WILDLY disparate; as low as the one I just grabbed and as high as $160. What should these actually be worth?

It'd be worth more if it had a die crack.

  • The Washington Quarters, in Cameo, are very weak and have been for the past 2 years. Now, if you are talking about '50 thru '55 and the '59, then that is a different matter. On a relative basis, considering Population numbers the DCAM Washington for any year is very undervalued. The supplies are relatively low, however, the demand is low as well. There just aren't that many Cameo/DCAM Washington Quarter collectors. The State Quarter program really helped the business strike quarter prices, yet it has done nothing for the Proof Quarters. Your '64 is worth $60. You got a really good price!

The absolute idiot that paid $160 somewhere in the past could have acquired a DCAM 68 and had change left over. I don't know what he/she was thinking!

Russ, a 64 Cam69 will sell for about $45-$50, a 69DCAM between $300-$400 and a 69 about $20. I have 36-42 proofs and the 50-64 series in 69's, cams some dcams, etc. You did good on that one.
  • Wow! Russ,

That's pretty good for a 12 hour snipe! I'm sure we're all awaiting one of your award-winning pictures when it arrives.

    Clark,

You know, there's an auction in my snipe list closing at 5:03 PM my time that I just checked on, and whose name do I see?image

    CoinDr,

Thank you for your input. I will give it all of the consideration that it merits.

  • Russ,

That pair of proof sets got sniped HARD! I was outbid with a couple of minutes to go... thought about it for a few seconds... went for a 5 second snipe and got SHUT OUT. Even what I considered a healthy snipe amount ($30) was no match for these folks.

    Clark,

Yeah, I got back there at two minutes, you'd been outbid so I went ahead and took a shot at $24 and got shutout. It went for stupid money.

    CoinDr,

You're really KINCOIN aren't you? Or, CoinCobbler perhaps? Wallstreetman? In any event, you're a cute little troll. A bit matted and smelling of urine, perhaps, from living below the bridge where we all relieve ourselves, but cute nonetheless.

  • Ross, you make it too easy man.
    Try this:

Less time typing. More time coming up with clever lines.

Practice on your wife or girlfriend first.
She'll tell you if you're being funny or not.
  • Cobb,
    We really missed you man!
