SGC set registry kicking off Nov. 7th

Right after PSA set registry awards....hmmmmm.
Can't see anyone completing even a small set anytime soon.
Will SGC commons prices increase?
They have interesting weighting bonus for key cards though.

I wouldn't crossover my set even if I got them done for free!!

Some sets are already done or close to done. I can think of a 1962 Topps set, for example, that is mainly SGC 92, 96 and 98s. It will be interesting to see how this develops -- and I do like the fact that they are giving premium weights to low pop. commons. But I am unsure what will warrant the determination of whether a common is low pop. or not. SGC's population? SGC + PSA's population?
It will be interesting to watch -- and I may even have to register a few Mike Schmidt cards if they move onto player sets!

BTW....I have heard that the registry is a concept PSA borrowed from the coin collecting world
and was initiated by SGC's parent company. I cannot verify this as fact, but this is what I've been told. Why can't you see anyone ever grading a card or set with SGC ? OK, maybe this is not the place for discussions about other grading companies.
Prewar sets are not as difficult as you might imagine(depending on the grade...) For example less than a year ago I started on a 34 & 36 Goudey set and have completed almost 70% on the 34 and should have the 36 Goudey done in 1-2 weeks ... I know a lot of collecters who have the 34 Goudey Set almost done in SGC with some PSA cards thrown in as I trade/sell to them from time to time...

There are a few sets that are very tough to complete in any grade -- many of the T-sets are very tough once you add in the variations. Some of the E sets are just downright impossible.
An E107 set in any grade would be just about any collector's dream. (besides the fact that they are ugly cards usually in god-awful condition)
My $.02.

CHEERS!!
To set the record straight... the registry concept was developed by David Hall (then CEO of PSA and PCGS, now President of CU) in 1997. The first registry booklet was published in 1998 for coins. Then in February, 2001, I launched on-line the interactive PCGS Set Registry for coins after 9 months of development. NGC, the sister organization for coins to SGC, launched their registry sometime later in 2001. Today there are 4,461 coin sets registered. I can't tell you how many are registered at NGC, because they don't provide that information, or at least I can't find it anywhere.
I took PSA Set Registry on-line in June, 2001 with 56 sets. Today there are 3,239. I think you know the rest, but should you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

You realize at the current rate of growth, by March of 2004, there would be approximately 187,341 sets registered. That would get you an automatic inclusion in the PSA Set Registry Hall of Fame!!

Thanks for setting the record straight. I was not attempting in any way to misinform folks.
As I said, I was told this (and yes it was someone at SGC who should have known the real scoop) and thought I would share it, as SGC seemed to be getting bashed (again).
I believe both companys are legit and I do biz with both, albeit much of the SGC grading I do any more is to finish off sets like the Stahl-Meyer run which was begun before PSA had oversized holders. PSA has many advantages (like you) but your graders are a tad inconsistent.
But I gotta say this new "running back" special is right out of the SGC playbook and is a step backwards for PSA; will the next special be for left-handed pitchers whom were born on an even day of an odd month
You must be the guy in Marketing doing the sales projection for my company... if you dream it up they can sell ...
I think I speak for all here when say BJ all your hard work and efforts are very much appreciated ....
luxurywines-I would agree there are plenty of 1930's Goudey's out there, particularly in the low and mid grades. However, as Marc stated I doubt you will find many complete sets of the T-cards and candy cards in company holders, and certainly not in high grade.
I'm surprised to see you so enthusiastic! Hang in there. It'll be here before you know it.
