Revenge is sweet!

A few years ago an ultra mean ebay seller left me my only true neutral feedback just because I ASKED him if I could return a coin he had sold me. I couldn't believe it at the time, all I did was cordially ask and he slammed me! Unfortunately he was one of those types who believes that all certified coin sales should be final because after all, they are certified.

Today I checked my current auctions, lo and behold guess who placed a bid on one of my items! Gleefully I canceled his bid and added him to my blocked bidders list. Based on my past dealings with him I am expecting a really nasty message.

OK, so he didn't even meet my reserve, and it's surely a small triumph in the big scheme of things, but it still feels darn good! image

Does anyone know Fred and is he still around? He is my one and only neg!!
HAVE A GREAT DAY! THE CHOICE IS YOURS!!!!
  • If you're talking about Fred Sarafino, no it wasn't him. I never would have bid on one of his auctions to begin with. It's just some mean old crotchety jerk that could use some lessons in fine tuning his people skills.

I noticed that your nemesis has 17 negatives. Looks like you're not the only one he trifled with.

    How sweet it is.

    Oh........ya.......Payback is a B*tch.

Seems some people use FB for all the wrong reasons.

So you only asked to return a coin. Some sellers like the ones that don't leave feedback and hold it hostage until you leave it for them first. I have one like that now I pay immediate and he's waiting to see what I do first. But I learned my lesson and he'll be waiting a long time.

Now Tonelover, although revenge can be sweet, maybe the guy has been in prison and got reborn and wanted to make amends with you by bidding on your auction? If thats the case how would you sleep at night.image

    Tonelover,

I tend not to forget bad dealings, and your response confirms the point I was trying to make in the "Cancelling no reserve auctions" thread. Relationships are important. Odds are, we'll all be doing this for a very long time. I think the permanent community is smaller than some people imagine.

Who is Fred? I once was the high bidder on an auction that had extremely complicated shippinig charges. I think my winning bid was in the neighborhood of 5 to 6 dollars for a Washington quarter. I waited two or three days for a message from the seller. When I didn't get it, I used the very complicated shipping instructions listed in the auctiona and sent what I thought was the right amount via Pay Pal, which he prefered according to the auction. I was off by 10 cents in my favor, and he refunded the money along with a really nasty email that stated he didn't have time or patience to use his valuable time making a trip to the the post office for bidders like me who try and save a a nickel or dime on his auctions by not paying the full amount. I put him on my don't bid list.

I am jealous...that is what revenge dreams are made of!! image the only better scenario would to have lost money to a dead beat seller, to then have him/her bid and win a coin that you are selling at triple what you lost and stick it right back at them!

<< <i> maybe the guy has been in prison and got reborn >>

Then he probably wouldn't mind my size thirteen boot up his arse!!!
  • Tyler, I think I actually got to stick him twice and I thank him for the opportunity to lay vengeance upon his worthless soul once again. Just now, a brand new to ebay bidder showed up, bid on a number of Large Cents including mine in a clever attempt to cover his tracks. I ain't buying it. Can you say cancelorama?!

Thanks, I never knew a cobra could be so mean. I figured that after he saw my email address at the time I'd receive a little more comraderie. I though we were like brothers!
  • Hmmm, good way to put it, Anaconda! I wonder if Bears block Cobras?

Anyway, Tonelover, I just bid on that nice large cent. It is probably too much for my budget though. Wasn't trying to insult the coin, I don't know their value.

    Great Cent, though! Very nice!

Bear, I most certainly could not have said it better myself! image
  • Ursabear, thanks for placing a bid I don't have to cancel.

I'll state publicly that I use ebay to sell coins that we're not comfortable offering to our regular clients. While decent, they're not exactly high end. Our wholesale material if you will. I'm honest and upfront about mentioning problems and offer a no problem return, but in general I'd recommend against bidding on my auctions. If people are interested in owning nice coins, they're better off watching our retail inventory than our auctions.

Hope this doesn't open up a big can of worms, but I speak the truth. Funny thing is, bidders leave glowing feedback all the time and they're quite happy with this type of material, but I offer them a truly nice coin at retail and they run away as fast as they can.
  • Obviously, some people are in the wrong business! That guy with all the negatives has some serious problems, doesn't he realize that will hurt business?

Why on earth are so many dealers / collectors so damn sensitive and "crotchety'? This is worse than my bickering grandkids!
  • stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
Tonelover, I buy very little from ebay. You have mentioned the fact about your auctions are not your high end material to me before.

And I commend you for stating it on this forum. True honesty is hard to find.

    Tonelover,
Where can I check out your retail inventory?
  • cachemancacheman Posts: 3,118 ✭✭✭
Loki, Here you go...Rare Coins of New Hampshire And if you're REAL nice to Jon he might even send you the most recent eCopy of the "Updated inventory from Rare Coins of New Hampshire" that he sends out each month. This is a nice little service where you can view whats new by hitting links embedded in the email that is sent to you. Trust me, RCNH will take care of you and integrity is the highest. Good luck. CM
