    An online payment service.

No, if you don't take credit cards through them, yes if you do.

Paypal is like a bank in that you can have money put in your account and pay for things from your account. You can also accept credit card payments to your paypal account.
The fees are payed by the reciever of the funds. So if you are a buyer only it's free the seller pay's paypal.
  • To send money to people is free.

To receive money from people cost you money. Depending on what account you have. My fees are something like min $.30 + a small percentage per transaction.

PayPal IS NOT A BANK. They are not regulated and money in your PayPal account is at risk.

    Fun with links image
  • Most important if you are ever in a dispute with someone and Paypal has been used to purchase the item, the seller's account can be frozen. The as a seller you have to make a toll call to Paypal and wait on hold for 15-20min to plead your case.

Others have written about this. Moral is only keep a minimal balance and have a backup if you use Paypal as a seller [or buyer].

PayPal is awesome. I've used it hundreds of times (both as a buyer and seller) with zero glitches.

And now that it's under the eBay umbrella, it expect even better sevice, and improved integration with eBay auctions..... things just keep getting better!!!

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.
  • Has anyone here utilized Citibank's C2it? They don't charge any fees for payments made from the buyer's bank account as long as it is a domestic transaction.

Seems like no one likes PayPal and the complaints only continue. Why not begin a trend here. You can cancel your PayPal accounts, IN VOLUMN, and openly advertize in your auction descriptions that you no longer offer PayPal. Your payments would be handled better and it might make a real impact with PayPal/Ebay! Besides, I find the additonal 2.9% + .30c to be a nice addition to profits.

I agree that PayPal has been very easy and efficient. However, now that they are under eBay I notice some subtle changes.

I have a personal account so I can't accept credit card payments from PayPal. However, now in the auctions you can select PayPal as a payment option and the option comes complete with the credit card logos whether you can accept credit cards or not.

Just this morning I received a notification of payment which looked exactly like previous notifications when I received cash. If it was for a credit card payment, the notification would ask me to accept or decline it but this new notification did not ask me and it was for a credit card payment. I then thinking I was paid, shipped the coin. It was only later when I checked my PayPal account that I realized it was still a pending transaction because it was a credit card payment.

I think the least that PayPal could have done was to notify its customer of format changes but NO, they do this because they want you to convert your account. I think this new tactic of theirs is as sleazy as some of the sellers on eBay.

I still like the service but they do make it difficult to maintain a personal account when you sell. (Yes, it's listed three times in the auctions that I can't accept credit card payments from PayPal but the links are set-up to make it easy to pay by credit card and some buyers either just forget what they read or didn't read it in the first place)

    Joe.
