That's R&I, aka Rick Tomaska. I've purchased many coins from R&I. You can deal with them with complete and utter confidence.

EDIT: Additional note, that's one of three eBay handles they use.

I thought that too, at first, but isn't Rick, Ultimatecameo?
He's ultimatecameo, registrycoin, and deepcameocoin, I think. Anyway, I don't know about ultimatecoin.

It's Rick- and coincidently, I received one of his coins today. As ALWAYS- Stellar in appearance.
You would think he has his own private little mint in his backyard- the appeal and quality of his coins are so nice.

I may still be wrong, but see my link above. And I may be wrong about this, but, didn't Rick get into a mess before due to a confusion about names? image

I agree with his coins........I looked at several of his auctions.......the 2 I'm watching are SUWEEEEEEEEEEEET!

  • This is one of the 3 Ebay ID's used by R&I coins. They offer some really nice coins, though they seem to be embelishing a bit on some of their titles. Seems all of their Franklins are DCAM+, Near DCAM, Near Cameo etc.

Fast reliable service with super quick refund privilege. I rarely buy there anymore. They offer high initial bids and no real auctions.

I take it all back. I am sorry for the mistake. It looks like he does use this name too. I am not up-to-date on his names, as I should be. I have tried to keep track of his names because he started to use Registrycoin after I offered him my Registrycoin.com site. Again, I overlooked this name. Please accept my sincere apologies.
  • Ultimate coin is not Tomaska. Here is his page showing his 3 Ebay ID's.

    My apologies. He certainly is.image
and he is a very good person to deal with. image
ps. There was a big huge mix-up on this forum about a year ago, concerning Rick and his names. This attempt to "keep things straight" sure backfired. sorry guys, Russ, Pat....
He is a nice guy, top coins (prices). good service!
pps. Rick: Give me a nice coin for my RegistryCoin handles on ebay and elsewhere, and let's end this madness.image
  • oh, shoot. I was wrong too. How many ID's does he have?
  • RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
    Andy,

Until now, I thought only three. I didn't know about RegistryCoin since I've never bought anything from that handle.

why would a seller of some repute need so many handles?

    K S
  • Several handles -- he probably has several employees listing coins, and desiring to keep things organized at his office, he probably has each different person maintain their own "identity".

Also, Rick Tomaska.......totally top shelf. I would trust him with my wife.

I was trying to work out a swap with a PCGS dealer on some modern coins for some classics and this dealer didn't trade in moderns.
I had mentioned that I bought some from R&I and he commented that he didn't understand how Rick can get $100 for a coin everybody else gets $15 for.

You would think because of the success he's made in building his reputation he would use one handle.

Sons, daughters, sons-in-law, etc running as seperate divisions. Long-term exit strategy for Rick.

  • Russ is right, I just spoke to Rick (about a different deal) and he confirmed that he has several employees and they all have different eBay names, to help keep things straight.

    hey relayer

the answer is an obvious one-----the other dealers aren't selling the same coin and all coins of the same grade are not created equal. R&I has a definite advantage in the cameo proof field------they pretty much specialized in that area when nobody else paid any attention to it so they have a reputation and sources that others don't. coupled that with rick t.'s good eye and everything comes up roses!!!

  • Rick is in a class all to himself when it comes to cameo proof coinage!
He is 100% responsible for my passion for modern coin perfection.
Even in the early 90's when most dealers and collectors thought these ultimate coins grew on trees,
I beleived in everything he printed and spoke.
From day one, Rick has always been conservative with his population figures, and because of his honesty and integrity he has made the modern cameo market what it is today.

In this collectors opinion, Rick is the Man!

  • Michael, i'll gladly second that statment! image BTW, my icon came from R&I and it's a beauty.

What I like about him is the CVI grading system he promotes, with eye appeal as the #1 factor. He specialized in a market niche and has been successful at it.

However the dealer has a valid point. I've bought some coins from ultimatecameo on eBay and from R&I when I was building my modern proof set. However, I’ve since had an epiphany about modern proofs and PR70DC’s in particular, so I took the set down and I’m selling it off in pieces and building a gold set.

So when I was a buyer, I was willing to pay a premium for a nice piece. As a seller, I find I can’t get that same sale price – for the exact same coin.

For example I paid $350 for a 1968 Kennedy 50c PR69DC from him and it’s very nice. People I showed it to won’t give me $350 and the last one I saw on ebay sold for $180.

Shouldn't the saying be - Buy the coin, not the reputation?

Not only is he the main man for the modern cameo market but the classic cameo market as well. Rick has been awesome with my want list for classic cameo proofs. He has always found the really top end stuff and charged a fair price for it; he likes want list clients because he does not have to go through the expense of advertising and having to inventory an item.

Rick used to be a regular and valueable contributor to these forums but simply gave up after reading too many comments like the one above (above yours, keets).
I guess I don't blame him. Who needs the misery?
He certainly wasn't writing here to pump up his business. In fact, for the longest time, no one really knew who he was (he didn't provide a signature at the end of each post advertising himself or his business).
I spoke with him on the phone once regarding coming back and he stated he "was a little busy, but will consider it in the future". I knew what that meant: forget about it.

  • Quarterjack,
Your icon coin wouldn't happen to be a 1952 Superbird, would it?
    I can't tell if it's a '52 or a '57.

Thanks for all the feedback on UltimateCoin.........didn't mean to cause such a ruckus........but in any event, this guy knows his cameos, browsed several auctions and ended up needing a towel to sop up the drool........and the best thing I found is that most of the coins I am interested in start out in my realm of budget.........they may eventually get way out of it, but at least my meager pockets have a chance.
